Unusual to see only 2 goals and both of them coming from mistakes (ours started with Mbengue giving the ball away carelessly, again, and then Charles dropping it). The less said about the penalties the better.
I thought we played lots of very pretty triangles in the first half when Millwall were happy to sit very deep and let us have the ball in non-threatening areas. Madsen, Vale, Chair, Edwards, Dunne, Charles - that was a nice looking central 6 who kept the ball well, moved into space to receive, played with their heads up. It was nice. But posed no real threat.
Second half, Millwall pushed up 10 yards and we lost the space to move in that part of the field. We actually created a few half chances by playing a little more direct, not long ball but a bit more incisive. Burrell moved a bit more central, then Lloyd replaced Kone, and we had Smyth on the left, and we looked to set them off with their pace. Still only half chances mind.
Overall, I'm still not entirely sure what we've got here. There was some nice football on occasion, Clive is right to say we need to move the ball just that touch quicker and some players obviously have more to come. But I worry about that midfield when games are going against us and we need some guts in there. And I still look at Kone/Burrell and think they need to play alongside one another - they both have what the other lacks - but that leaves us short elsewhere.
Hmm. Intrigued to see where we are after the Cardiff game.

Im probably going against the flow but there was a lot to be positive about on Saturday. Especially defensively given last seasons turnstile approach to opposition runs at us.
We have a better squad, but whats interesting is that nearly all the "pundits" have us finishing around the same place (some a bit lower).
In truth what this summer has lacked is a significant sale. we are full on player trading as a model and havent really sold anyone of any value since the new framework at Loftus Road.
I still think we can improve on last year. but we need to see a decent Sale this season, but Im not sure who that could be? Kone? Edwards? chair? the truth is that none of our squad are shoring the consistency needed to attract decent money..

There were some positives from the match along with some negatives.
The defence looked stronger than last season. The goal conceded came from a double error, Mbenge's stray ball and Charles dropping the ball. Other than that move they all played well. Charles distribution , using both feet, looked very promising.
The midfield looked ok, but not much more than that. Vale was the weakness there as he tends to disappear ala Dozzell. His penalty was telegraphed as well. I don't expect he will start in a midfield 3 next week at Portsmouth. Chair had a decent game imo, but clearly should have done better with his pass to Kone, his one on one and of course that oh so poor penalty (stupid run up and weak, poor height and telegraphed). However, he didn't hide, wanted the ball and got an assiist. He also nearly scored from Mbenge's early cross, but his shot was blocked and went out for a corner.
Kone and Burrell can both play much better, but I was impressed with Lloyd's cameo. We know he has limitations, much like Mackie did imo, but he runs at defenders and looks stronger than he did.
However , I think the match showed just why QPR will need another striker , especially if Kolli will not be at the club, or Obikwu is continually injured (he may not even be Championship quality for all we know).

On reflection this was continuation last season - failure to make it count when we're enjoying possession and on top and a comedy goal conceded by compound errors. And on the positive side, not giving up after going a goal down. Shouldn't really be a surprise as it's largely the same squad.
I wonder if Burrell is being advised not to turn on on the burners until he's got a few more games in.
