Shocking news. He really was a legend - gave 100% to the hoops and I don't even remember him playing for anyone else, even if he did. RIP Macca.

Another person who doesn’t post much but had to today. So sad. He was also one of my favourite players. Would rather have him in my team than most of those who play today.
RIP Macca.

The cornerstone of that 90s side and a brilliant committed leader. A proper central defender. My favourite player - I made him my avatar two weeks ago, having never had one before.

Sad news.

100% thoroughbred Rangers legend.

Echoing what many have said, for my of us who grew up in the mid 1980s, he was the first player I can actually remember idolising. He was a legend for us, that term is used to widely these days but he was. My earliest memories include him Sjkestal, Parker, Bardsley, Sinton, Barker, Holloway and Sir Les. He made me so proud to support QPR!

RIP

People use the word legend far to often these days but let me tell you this...Alan McDonald was a QPR legend. A good old fashioned centre back...hard as nails, smoked 40 a day (including a couple at half time in the toilets) and as passionate as you can get. QPR have lost a true legend today. RIP big man.

Devastating news. I can't believe it.
The term legend is used so frequently these days that it has become almost meaningless. Make no mistake, Macca is a true QPR legend.
I can recall his debut away at Wolves. We had only just got promoted to the top flight, and he was up against the most expensive forward in the country, Andy Gray. A daunting prospect for a 20 year old. He was magnificent. We won 4.0 and Gray never got a sniff. Macca never looked back.
Thanks for all the memories big man - we will all miss you.

RIP Alan one of the (if not the) finest defenders I've seen play for us.

In my 35 years and counting of following the R's he was by far and away the best leader we've had on the pitch. Sadly Macca missed out on the money era of football but that's part of the reason he will always be remembered by the fans who saw him play, we knew that the commitment was there for the right reasons. R.I.P Macca a true legend.
