QPR v Burnley 74/75 ITV4 Saturday 1030 19:58 - Nov 13 with 1957 views | Walnut | ..on tomorrow's Big Match Revisited. Rarely shown and as far as I know not on any of our retro compilations. Interesting to see footage of ours that's not been seen for ages. Spoiler.. There's a reason it's not on our DVDs ;-)
QPR v Burnley 74/75 ITV4 Saturday 1030 on 20:49 - Nov 13 with 1879 views | DannyPaddox | I didn't go to this one but remember very vividly watching the Big Match highlights. By then I was 8 or 9 years old with a serious addiction to both QPR and flicking football cards up against walls in high stakes winner-takes-all gatherings of a clandestine and impromptu nature. Burnley to me would've been the stick-of-gum in a packet countenances of Caspar, Noble, and Dobson. We absolutely dominated the game. The away team weren't in it and were totally outclassed. To be fair Burnley were the worst team in the division that season - so bad they were relegated by mid-October and became the first top tier team, for years and years and years, to lose to a non-league team in the FA Cup (1-0 to Wimbledon - Dickie Guy in goal). The game was like shooting practice for the Rs - but a really bad shooting practice where no one ever scores. Burnley had one breakaway and a shot on goal - I think Parkesy fumbled it. Even planetarium-headed Brian Moore remarked "I don't think you'll see a more one-sided game than that" Look away now if you don't want to know the score. FT: 0-1 [Post edited 13 Nov 2020 20:53]

I think the game that's on tomorrow is (was) our annual defeat at Turf Moor. With our records at Turf Moor and Ewood Park, what is it about east Lancashire that doesn't agree with us?

I believe it's at HQ, ie a Brian Moore / Big Match game
QPR v Burnley 74/75 ITV4 Saturday 1030 on 21:40 - Nov 13 with 1802 views | DannyPaddox | Wasn't the game at Turf Moor a 5-2 defeat which would mean Burnley, relegated and cut well adrift from the rest of the division, did the double over us. To put it into perspective this was the season we were merely tuning up before becoming the best team in Europe.

Burnley went down the following season DP. The game in December 1974 was a 3-0 defeat at Turf Moor. [Post edited 13 Nov 2020 22:05]

Ah right, they must be into January now as we played Burnley at LR on the 11th January 1975 that season. The last Big Match Revisited I saw a couple of weeks ago they were showing matches from December 1974 and assumed they were still in December. Weirdly, the fixtures played this day were all reverses of games played only five weeks earlier.

Right you are Cambers. Carlisle were the Burnley that year. Burnley were a respectable top half that season. It was Derby we lost to 5-2 away and the Burnley 3 goal away deficit was a few weeks later - I'm now consulting the oracle of old programmes. In light of the old - even when we were good we didn't pull big crowds chestnut - I'm impressed by these three January attendances from a midtable QPR side Southend United - Tuesday Evening FA Cup replay 21, 484 Burnley - Saturday League game - 19,359 Notts County - Friday Evening FA Cup - 23, 428

QPR v Burnley 74/75 ITV4 Saturday 1030 on 10:11 - Nov 14 with 1536 views | terryb | The 74/75 season is the first one after I'd moved to Tpswich. My memory of thatseason is that we started with a draw away to Sheffield United & then won at Elland Road. This weas followed by losing at home to Stoke when Hurst scored in the last minute from their only attack of the game. We then hit a bad patch & we might have even been bottom of the table until beating Ipswich, the league leaders. Come 1975 & for a while we played the best football in the country (widely acknowledged by other clubs at the time), until West Ham kicked us into submission in the FA Cup 5th round. I think Thomas & Bowles were brutally injured in the opening ten minutes & we ended up with nine fit & two injured passengers on the pitch. Even so, we only lost 2-1 & were storming their goal at the finish. That West Ham side, under John Lyall, were aggressive in the extreme & performed the same way against Arsenal at Highbury in the 6th round & in both seme final matches where Ipswich suffered multiple injuries. My other abiding memory is of winning at Carlisle on 22nd February, my wedding day. We chose that date as I would not be going to the Scottish borders & my wife was giving the Ipswich visit to Old Trafford a miss! To be fair, I think she has alweays put me above Ipswich Town, but she might doubt that I've put her above Rangers!

QPR v Burnley 74/75 ITV4 Saturday 1030 on 14:34 - Nov 14 with 1344 views | ManinBlack | This season was my first where I went to the games rather than just one or two a season as my dad finally got mum to allow me to go. The games mentioned in this thread I went to. The 3-0 and 1-0 defeats to Burnley, the 5-2 defeat to Derby who also missed a penalty that day. The 3-0 Friday win against Notts County and the 2-1 away win at Carlisle. I believe Burnley finished one place above us in mid table just like when we both got promoted a couple of years earlier. On reflection losing 5-2 at Derby was understandable as that Derby side went on to win the league title. Did we not beat them 4-1 in the return in true QPR style? Don't forget Derby won 5-2 away to Burnley so clearly they were good as we could not score against the Clarets even with our creative team. It was also in true Rangers tradition to lose at home to Burnley, low on confidence after losing at home to non league Wimbledon a week earlier. We even were charitable in those days so must have something to do with our church origins. Better to give then receive etc etc.
