I think 6 of our 14 goals have been scored from outside the box, one of the highest percentages in the league. Even though Beale has, tongue in cheek, said he'd like to see a few more scrappy goals, Chair and Willock have been allowed to go for it in a way Warburton did not want. When you have our 10s shooting accurately from distance it must seriously worry defenders and pressure them to over commit and therefore make more mistakes.
I'm happy with a scrappy two yarder, but we all love a screamer from outside the box. Willock's goal last night looks better every time I see it.
Who was that forward we had who used to score with every part of his body apart from his feet or head? Love to see a couple of those v Stoke this weekend.
Warbs banned long-range shots, it seems Beale has said to shoot when you want.
It turns out Chair and Willock are pretty good at shooting outside the box, this show Warbs got that wrong.
What's going on? Well its like xG ratios, no point in looking at that if all your shots come from Dozzel who plays deep, compared to Willock. It all depends on who is doing the shooting when it comes to long-range shots.

Yeah my overall feeling so far is while MW wanted to play good football he was less flexible in terms of what the players did on the pitch; whereas while Beale also has set methods he also seems to say to the players 'if it feels good, do it'. Which can only be a good thing.
Glory be for posting this thread our attacking players are being unleashed to give it a go from positions outside the box. The modern game is littered with so much fannying around inside the 18 yard box and so many players in there getting decent shots away from outside is going to pay dividends and we are starting to see that.

This is my new favourite football thing - the hierarchy of goals. We all know that set piece goals and penalties don't count as much because teams are often berated for not scoring more from open play. Now we learn that 'wonder' goals scored from outside the area don't count as much either. Also, goals scored by non-strikers seem to count a little less too. I'm not sure where goals like Dunne's v Boro rank.
So what's the ideal goal? Is it one scored from open play from a shot inside the box by a striker after a good move or succession of passes? If so, maybe we can let Beale know so he can start working on it. Perhaps a note to the FA too as it seems they're ranking all our goals the same which can't be right.
Have to hope that our other attackers stay focused when Chair or Willock start cutting inside.
If we start seeing the opposition come out more aggressively to block these outside-the-box shots, there will be opportunities for attackers to sneak in for some easy opportunities, whether it's off rebounds or from cheeky passes from our No. 10s.

What's the ideal goal? A last minute equaliser by your keeper. Should count double. Obvs. Innit.
Listening to Sky today the only goal last night they rated was Sunderland's third at Reading so I guess we need to score goals like that on the counter to please them.
We have scored some pearlers so far, just a shame that sitters inside the six yard box has been a bit more of a problem.

You would think so, but in the arcane logic of the hierarchy of goals Dieng's goal is worth almost nothing because, you know, we can't rely on him to get us out of trouble every time.

Actually seen the Sunderland goal, and it was one of the best team goals I have seen for a long time. Ours were good too though 😎
