I think it was a brain injury he would not be playing again. My non-medical knowledge guess would be something spinal, possibly in the neck but more likely in the back as a neck injury would create headaches and that would have been noted and more pronounced much earlier and acted upon then. That can be operated on and a recovery such that playing again could be likely.
