I was at this game (as I was most of them that season).
The nail in our coffin that year was Cantona scoring during the opening credits of Blind Date just as Cilla was introducing Fergie to three tossers from the FA, the League and the Referee's Association behind the screen.
I remain convinced if we'd got the result we deserved that game we'd of stayed up.
Huge trouble post match.
I seem to recall Jurgen who weren't German Sommer got severely censured a few weeks later when he did a double page spread in the back of The Super Soaraway Sun about how bent the authorities were and they made sure United got something from the game. It's one of the few things I look back fondly about his time with us.
I must be honest..... I don't remember the second goal from Mavis being that special.
It must've been overuse of bottles of Two Dog that day as was fairly common then. |  |
