Through decades of watching Rangers play that side of the pitch has always been a problem. There must be some kind of subsidence or something going on. I remember Trevor Francis going down that wing and it looked like a ploughed field. There must be some kind of historical drainage issue? |  |

There was an area near Ellerslie rd stand between the halfway line and going eastwards to almost the penalty area loft end that we called the slough of despond. Goes back a long time. |  | | |

I was thinking the same, that side of the pitch always has issues but never normally this early in the season.
That side of the pitch likely has issues because it doesn't get as much sun due to the stand but I thought we normally have lights to help that issue. | | | |

I was thinking the same, that side of the pitch always has issues but never normally this early in the season.
That side of the pitch likely has issues because it doesn't get as much sun due to the stand but I thought we normally have lights to help that issue. |
This but when it rains - as it has been - the lights are useless. |  |

It looked too regular to be caused by rain or drainage
It was the exact same width the full length of the pitch.
Almost like someone had starting cutting the grass on the wrong setting before being stopped.

I doubt that we have a Sustainable drainage system under the pitch, that and a lack of sunshine will take It's toll, as for a drainage system under the pitch who knows? |  |

There's the main reason, a lack of sun.
Stadiums also need to allow air to circulate around and out. If I'm not mistaken, a lack of sun and poor air circulation were why the pitch at the San Siro was poor. |  |

It doesn't get the sun so the grass doesn't grow as well. This means the root system isn't as strong and it cuts up, but doesn't grow back strongly.
It's been like it forever. I remember Bardsley used to slip around on that side in the early 90s. | |
