MBengue ban? 12:06 - Jan 17 with 2090 viewsdavman

Amadou got booked in the cup. Does that mean that he is one yellow away from a two game ban?

Can we go out yet?

No. Only yellow cards in league games count towards a ban in the league. It changed a couple of seasons ago.

Agree 100%. Viewing stream from afar, ref had a bit of a shocker. He did not book Rigo for a straightforward pull back to stop Rangers counterattack in 1st half, and let off Sorba Thomas for clattering Jimmy Dunne in the 2nd half clearly In retribution for Jimmy's nasty, late challenge that looks like it has broken Muamba's leg. Also other player involved in Mbengue booking was the old goblin guy himself Ben Pearson.

Some may disagree but thought booking was right for Jimmy tackle...mistimed not malicious. So ref did get something right!

Agree 100% with this post the ref was very poor and was getting some serious abuse from the Stoke fans I think it effected him.Mbengue getting booked when he was being held before the corner was a joke and was rightly furious .Jimmy Dunne was late with that tackle but his legs were on the ground just got him on the slide through and he was upset when he saw the stretcher.Thomas made no attempt for the ball just a direct blow to Dunne's head as clear a yellow as I have ever seen but nothing.Could be a very low score for the ref on the match report

Also thought he let Cisse off a second yellow with that foul from behind in Madsen

As much a homer as you can get. Absolutely pathetic to book both Mbengue and Pearson. Obviously didn’t want to deal with the wrath of the crowd and Pearson wasn’t listening to him so he did b that thing that weak refs do and booked both of them. Agree about the pullback on Madsen for one of our few breakaways in the match and the foul on Jimmy. I was surprised the player got so badly injured for the Jimmy tackle as it looked like the kind of mistimed challenge that happens often in matches. Hope he’s okay.

Also missed the seemingly obvious handball for a pen from Mbengue so we were lucky there. But that just adds to his uselessness.

Honestly I don’t know how a ref gets to this level without being able to withstand a bit of pressure from a crowd. It happens in U5s football!

That ridiculous card yesterday now means he has to negotiate the next nine games without one, to avoid a two game suspension. A tall order, unlikely to happen.
We need to get Ronnie up to speed asap and ready to step in for the inevitable.

No, he's on nine league bookings. The cutoff for a two game ban for ten yellows is game 37.

That’s why he was so upset to be booked yesterday for pretty much doing nothing. Also I think he was unlucky to be booked for the Birmingham match for celebrating as a sub. Im sure I’ve seen that happen before and I haven’t seen anyone being booked for that. When players don’t get booked for blatant pull backs or bad fouls it just seems that reffing is based on a whim a lot of the time.

Nah, he was downright shite for both sides - no hint of bias either way. They had as much cause to be aggrieved as we did...

I think it's game 32 not 37. Not that it'll make much difference.

He was but they got off lightly on the card count whereas we had Mbengue booked, in a fit of pique by Donohue, for trying to free himself from being held by Pearson.

Sorba Thomas going around angry all afternoon and taking cynical revenge on Kone.
A couple of pull backs not carded, including one of theirs who was already on a yellow.

I think he realised how poorly he was reffing the game and became determined not to attract more criticism, if he dared to send off a home player.

It's 37 games if the player accrued five yellows before the first cut off which Mbengue did.
