Just dropped. Very good.

Never knowingly right.

Listening now and nice to hear that I wasn’t the only one that enjoyed the Stoke performance.

Kone will come good. Adapting to the league and not able to boss defenders like he did in league 1. The team don't really play to his strengths. He needs be in and around the box more

I think they were spot on. Agree with most of what they say.

Kone is a good striker

The wide attackers arent doing enough

Julien needs to change the formation from time to time.

Watching that you wonder who's coaching the strikers now - and wishing it was someone like Kevin Gallen. The bit about standing still, occupying the CBs, creating space for wide players like that instead of working so hard was really interesting.

There's a top-level former defender coaching defenders at QPR and similarly a midfielder, but there's no ex-centre forward. Would be a great job for Paul Furlong, whose overall game is not unlike Kone's. Wonder whatever happened to him?

Sadly it was a thumbs down from the Child King :(

You imagine that someone like Kevin Gallen or Charlie Austin would be ideal mentors for Kone, Burrell etc. Very dissappointed they let Paul Furlong go.

Never knowingly right.

I'll have a listen to this when I get out of this TEAMS meeting I'm on.

It seems to me that every striker we've had for decades has this rolled out in their defence : "don't really play to his strengths".
Is this really a thing or are we signing strikers, giving them big deals and then leaving it at that and allowing them to fester and not demanding goal returns?

I've given Kone half a season plus and I'm now minded that he's not up to it at this level.
Never bought the early season hype and I found it most annoying that after 4 goals in quick succession we were treated to a walk around the pitch interview with him and Charlie Austin. All a bit premature I felt.

Kone is as slow as a rainy Sunday and doesn't dominate opposition defenders anywhere near enough so his strength would be in question for me. I also think he's below average in the air (refer to at least two six yard box bad headed misses) and his ball control and skills pretty ropey. Passing wise I'm not seeing he has great vision and he also comes across as extremely moody when he hasn't got Burrell doing his running for him.

Now...... is there a player in there? Despite everything I've said my answer is yes, but he's got a hell of a lot of work to do.
He has shown the odd flashes such as giving Charlton's CB's a torrid time, beating a decent full back out wide and showing a great pass to Burrell to score in a game (opposition I can't recall). It's also clear that when he hit's a ball cleanly it can stay hit - he has got a rocket shot. One thing he does seem to do is track back deep which flies in the face of my view that he's letting others do all the running.

I'd take him ahead of Dykes, Celar, Frey, Chris Martin etc but I'm fully on board with others here that note we could do with someone getting into these strikers and making them the next Helguson, Austin etc.

(I'm not mentioning his apparent age.... some people on here quite touchy about that)

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Two years ago he was playing non league football. It took him some time to adapt and really kick on at Wycombe. He has taken another big step up and needs time, he is learning this division and has had to play for a large part of the season so far playing behind Burrell, not really his strength.

He would benefit from a dedicated striker coach as has been said on this thread, as well as some delivery into the box, the wide players are out of form to put it mildly.

Luckily the bloke non of us heard of has come in from Burton Albion and scored plenty of goals prior to his injury. or maybe it isnt luck, maybe it was a brilliant plan by the powers that be all along.

The WLS podcast headline certainly got the Twitter kids' knickers in a twist. Naughty Dave

Already mentioned before re Kone but a) it's adapting to a step up (given his meteoric rise) and b) he needs better conditioning.

Otherwise I think he's got the raw materials to do well for us, and he's a far better prospect than all the other crap strikers we've had over the last ten years.

Kevin G sounds so downbeat on these WLS pods these days. Has he been QPRed, or is something going on in his life?

He's probably a bit bored, as he has been saying the same sort of thing for a few years now.

Menawhile, Dave Mc has, for me, perfected the fascinating art of sounding incredibly bored/boring while actually being distinctly interesting.

(It's a compliment if you're reading, Dave.)

Harvey Vale is also apparently 22 but if it said on his Wiki that he was 28 or 29, I'd believe that. He certainly doesn't look older than Kone to me.

Are they conspiring together?

Ideal for a team managed by Wayne Rooney, who's always looked 5-10 years older than his actual age.

I am 58 and I look 5 - 10 years younger than what age bracket "Wazza" appears to be in nowadays.....

There was a film out not so long ago, about a boy who aged almost a decade a year and at age 13 sadly near to death, he had the look of a 90 year old man. Baron Munchausen is the disease am led to believe !!!!

Just checked - must be thinking about something else - can't find anything...

Rooney not quite there yet anyhow !!!!

Hey there was a good chap called Les who could head and strike a ball well. Charlie Austin interviewed Kone earlier in the season. Why not get someone of that ilk in, who wants to earn a few pennies and it doesnt necessarily have to be an ex player. I wonder if the defensive coaching of Steve Bould has helped or its more the experience and quality of the defenders playing currently.

We have a goalkeeping coach, and a defensive trainer and a set piece specialist, why not an attacking head coach. Thought the head of METHODOLOGY could sort that one out for us.....

Has anyone seen last weeks podcast?

I personally found some of Dave's comments a bit odd when talking about Kone and Burrell.

Also felt a bit cringe the way he talked about Kolli.

Think you can read things into everyone's comments these days if you want to.

Everyone seems to want to find something to offend them.

All I saw about Kolli, was him saying all the publicity was coming from back in Algeria arounds him, and he wasn't sure it was helpful. But people can find racist undertones in things if they take things out of the context in which things are said and then gradually a social media frenzy suddenly develops with a passion.

He was referring to his appearance as well. Just seemed a strange and unnecessary thing to be saying in my opinion.

I never said what he said was wrong, it's subjective. I just personally felt it was just a bit irrelavent and didn't come across well... in my opinion.

Also find it's generally quite a negative podcast. But that could just be how they come across generally in real life?! I don't know. Thankfully James lifts the mood a bit when he's on there.

I'll still watch it and am interested in what they say - I don't agree with much of it. Comes across as glass half empty a lot of the time I feel. But that's the same for all of us on here anyway right? Different opinions. Some positive, some less so.

I know its a bit of fun for SKY, but have a look at this

Charlie Austin was a great striker and it looks like Chris Ramsey wasn't a bad coach either, training should be fun as well!

I'd have loved to see Les on the field imparting knowledge into the likes of a Sinclair Armstrong, maybe this did go on, you'd like to think that one of the best #9's in the game had something to say to players coming through

Agree. We need a striker coach who knows the club well.

I'm also 58 but people also think I'm a lot younger, which would be good if I didn't look quite a lot like Kermit.

Never knowingly right.

As Podcasts go, and purely for the football discussion and insight on Rangers, it's the best one in my opinion.

I think Dave knows his stuff, and he applies logic, using his past experiences of Rangers- he's been around a lot - to argue his points. I think that's balanced, and while people may not agree always, I certainly see where he comes from.

I didn't agree with him, but also sort of understood where he was going with the Kolli stuff, and didn't think an apology from him was necessary. Some players, because they are quite individual/flamboyant in appearance, and when they have an interesting backstory or links to another country where they supposedly have a lot of interest/international recognition in the pipeline, it can inflate fans opinions of players and people don't always view them the same as your regular youth teamer.

A case in point being Niko Hamalainen. While maybe not having the Kolli hair, the Finnish international recognition was regularly used as evidence of him being a player. He was anything but.
