Sofia or Budapest?

Or anything else for that matter. (Not Prague).

Anyone shed light on these two places for a lads weekend, prices in town, what to do etc?

As Danny Glover once said.... I'm getting too old for this sh*t...

How old are the people going? Budget? Do you want a mixture of culture and booze or just booze and women?

Madrid, its got everything you want for a good stag do, easy to get round plenty of culture if you like that sought of thing, and worth a taxi ride to do the bernabau stadium tour [more silverware than her majesty].
Stayed at the Regina hotel, dead easy to remember the name when your p....d.

Cheap prices in town for booze and food that kinda thing nothing too OTT and not to bothered about strip joints etc, bloody awkward, Grooms in laws likely to be there anyway.

Basically usually works like this,

Main night is the 1st night, bars, clubs etc as everyone goes mad for it straight off.
Second day, activity or something cultural to do before going back on it for the evening.

Third day, get the hell outta there ASAP.

Madrid is a good call. Lisbon is great too. Can take in a bit of culture as well as plenty of places to drink/eat.

You could do somewhere like Albufeira on the Portugese south coast. Near Faro airport, easy to get to, reletively cheap food & drink, plenty of bars within walking distance as it's not that big and a chance to do activities such as jet skiing etc. When are you going?

have you thought of something like Edinburgh? its a lot close, cleaper to get to, no language issues, and the licensing laws in Scotland mean the clubs/bards stay open longer...

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

We had a couple of days in Sofia with Fulham and whilst it’s cheap as chips — 70p a pint for local beer/under £2 for Erdinger/Paulaner — there wasn’t much to do or see and we didn’t find any really great bars. The people were nice enough, but I’d struggle to recommend it as a city. I liked Budapest and it’s pretty cheap, but not sure about how many decent places you’d get into with a big group.I agree that Madrid’s a great city and could be great for a stag weekend — plus you should be able to get a game in at Rayo Vallecano/Real Madrid/Atletico if it’s not an international weekend or during the summer. Reckon Lisbon (or Oporto) is a good shout too.

How many of you going? I’ve been to Istanbul with 7-8 mates a couple of times and that is a brilliant city for a weekend on the pop. Loads and loads of bars, no bother from the locals, cheap, millions of kebab shops/meze places which is ideal for people wanting to eat at different times, loads to see, friendly locals and you can always get a game in. Brilliant city.

Other than the usual spots, Belgrade’s a good city for cheap beer and late bars — again, no problems, not much to see, but Red Star or Partisan are worth a visit and the local woman are stunning. Split’s the same, Poland’s always good for cheap beer and football.

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

I recommend Bucharest without any hesitation

We stopped there on the way to Moldova and also on the back when England played there and was amazed how many bars there are in the Old Town and how cheap it is as well

Hundreds of bars open all night and a pint or bottle is about 75p plus cheap flights from Luton with Wizz Air for about £80 return

Budapest is a much better City than Sofia for a stag do IMO (bene to both on boozy lads weekends).

I organised a stag do in Hamburg earlier this year and it was a fantastic place to go - but it was not cheap.

If you have big numbers (i had 20+ blokes) i used a company called chillisauce who specialise in organising stag do abroad. They did an organised, guided pub crawl with guaranteed club entry and go karting for us in Hamburg and it was well worth it.

Why don't you try Eindhoven or Dusseldorf or Hamburg or Berlin? They are as good as any of the places mentioned, and you get the better football angle too.
Don't bother with Bucharest where I went for mine, it's cheap but there isn't a great deal else to do and there were more than 50 of us.

Why not Prague? That would be top of my list.

Amsterdam is always good.

Budapest was OK.

Vilnius was a fahkin dump.

I had mine in Cardiff, and it was pretty good. Just hope the pictures never make it into the public domain.

Hamburg and Berlin are great cities for a weekend on the pop, but I wasn't that fussed with Eindhoven. Bit dull. None of them are especially cheap, though. You could lob in Cologne as an option if you're looking at Germany - easy access to Koln, Monchengladbach, Dusseldorf, Dortmund or Schalke for the football. I reckon Poland's the new Germany - some decent grounds now, easy enough to get tickets, miles cheaper that Germany and I've either been or heard good stuff about Krakow (stag central), Poznan, Gdansk or Wroclaw. Cheap flights available for all. Depends on numbers and whether you're happy visiting places without a huge amount to do other than eat/drink/watch football.

Eindhoven, like Dusseldorf has got that one street which is very lively and doesn't shut.
My wife is originally Polish so I have done most there, and although they aren't bad, give me Germany every time for a night out.

Konk, can I interest you in my book, you might like it. I don't really slag Fulham off either!

I went to Sofia in 1998 (not on a stag do) and it is a bit grimm but otherwise OK. Krakow is a popular place but that might means prices are pushing up but how about Bratislava in Slovakia?

If you're concerned that this is all getting a bit out of hand price-wise allow me to drop two words into the conversation:

Bratislava is OK, but it's pretty small and we ended up going to the same club 2 nights in a row due to lack of options.

And the cheeky gits tried to double the entry price once they clocked we were British!

Krakow is awesome or for somewhere a bit more off the beaten track in Poland Wroclaw is a really lively student town.

Went there with Fulham last year and it was brilliant. Didn't pay more than £1 for local lager and about £1.50-2.00 for German Wheat beers. Hotel was cheap as chips. Really nice city with millions of bars, locals were fine, two clubs if you want to watch football and the Jewish Quarter, I'd imagine, if you wanted to avoid loads of other stag do's. Really enjoyed Krakow.

I'd be interested in reading it, but I like to protect my anonymity (I'm actually Hugh Grant), so not sure how we'd arrange it. We'd have to do a cold war style book drop or meet on a bench in St James Park or something.
