Mushy Peas Advice Please 12:36 - Jun 11 with 1983 viewsted_hendrix

I've now had two attempts at making mushy peas, cant quite get it right, I've done the 16 hour soaking and rinsing thingy but they're not coming out with the correct consistency, I've followed the instructions religiously but to no avail the bastards have come out to bloody dry on both occasions.
I'm not overly keen to move to Grimsby or Manchester at the moment in my pursuit of the perfect plate of mushy peas so if there's anyone out there who considers themselves a mushy peas gourmet I'd welcome your advice.

Bring a shallow pot of lightly salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add frozen peas, and cook for 3 minutes, or until tender. Drain peas, and transfer to a blender or large food processor. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper to peas, and process until blended, but still thick with small pieces of peas. When finished throw them in the bin because they taste like shit.

Get some perfectly good peas and make a complete arse of cooking them = mushy peas.

35p a tin at Morrison's. Get a life

P.S. That sounds a bit harsh but I've noticed my local chappie (absolutely excellent) buys in their mushy peas in huge catering size tins.

None of your business.

Wales have just taken the lead against Serbia with a well cheeky penalty by Ramsey.

16 hours Ted? That's two working days. For northern muck.

Their are greater delicacies on mother earth than scouse and tripe. Too.

Move along.

Last night I did bbq mackeral fillets in ginger and lime and fresh sardines pitched out of the med into the market saturday morning.

Mushy peas my arse lol

Pea for pointless - that's my mantra. I'll have no truck with peas of any description. Except for rice and peas - they're not actually peas.

I usually end up adding loads of vinegar or mint to them which leads me to believe that mushy peas must just be boring and tasteless. like every Tory MP. (see, I managed to get a political angle in to a thread that was rapidly straying away from politics)

I don't really rate mushy peas as have been presented to me. However last week, Mrs Hants produced a very tasty minted pea puree to accompany some fine lamb cutlets. The peas are cooked then mixed with mint, balsamic vinegar and possibly some other secret ingredients to get consistency then pureed. It drew murmurs of approval from our French guests.

Ted, should attempt number three be a failure, use this as your inspiration:

It's beautiful.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?
