i tried the first 10 mins and it was utterly dreadful, the bitter ramblings of a bitter man with Peps floundering around not really understanding his mood. Please tell me it got better after that? I couldn't bear it, but willing to try again if it picks up. Found all the Afternoon Retreats on itunes and going through them, which are perfect.

It did, Antti.
Took a while alright but before long it was business as usual.
Thanks for the tip on Afternoon Retreat!

ah good, maybe i'll pick it up in ep 2, cheers! really felt like at the start of ep 1 he thought the whole thing was beneath him '7 time broadcaster of the year and here I am on a podcast'. Very odd for someone who normally despises 'self-regarding nonsense!'
He's admitted that TV is not his forte and that he is more suited to radio. His three autobiographical books are very good indeed. (third one a bit heavy because it deals with his illness). I missed the stage show; I'd guess that he was telling stories from the books?

Yes it was. Random photos appear on huge screens on stage and he would tell stories that specific photo or a story related to one of the people in the picture. Some of the stories weren't in the three books, which are superb as you know. Some comedians would die for his repertoire.
