If Chair is not fit for Birmingham game, 14:02 - Jan 1 with 2377 viewsknocker

Should he be allowed to go to Africa? I don't think so.

If we stopped him going he would not be allowed to play for us.

that would really endear us to him.

Its not ideal for us but Ilias Chair going to AFCON to represent Morrocco is a huge deal for both himself, and us as a club in our standing in sending several players to a major tournament.

We need to get away from this thinking that our club and league is more important in the global football scene, just because of the tournament's timing.

I think he will play tomorrow. But what if he won't be fit for another week or so?

This and I'd add that, like it or not, Chair is an asset to the club. If he performs well on the international stage, then this is good not just for him but also the club.

If he is not fit for us, I would expect him to fly out to be assessed by the Morocco medical people, only then will a decision by made by them (not us.)

For years I've laughed at Premier League clubs hoovering up talent from Africa and then bitching when said players go to the AFCON. I don't want to be that club.

And that ends that, to be fair.

Morocco have added an extra player to their squad (one more than the 28 allowed) last week.

I have no idea who the added player is, or his position, but perhaps they are covering themselves in case a player has to withdraw.

I think Chair almost played v Bristol City, he probably will tomorrow and certainly be fine by the 10th for Morocco's first game.

I'm also sure Mo Salah will get hauled off for Liverpool with 15 minutes remaining tomorrow, pull out injured for Egypt and then be fine by the time Liverpool next have a league match on 16th.

Definitely this! If they decide he's not fit enough then it would be up to them to send him back. I think he'd want the opportunity and if we want to keep our players happy, we have to show we won't hold them back from these opportunities.

I think the point will be moot anyway. I think he'll be back for tomorrow.

Actual scenes earlier as the Loftus Road staff try and stop Chair from travelling.

Chair is on a private jet with Imran Louza and Adam Masina (Watford)

So was/is he injured?

On the plus side, I assume Dieng will wait for Mendy and Mane to finish up at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night before traveling with them.

Why would Salah be complicit in avoiding representing his country when it's his personal choice in the first place?

I dunno, do Liverpool's physio's have the power to declare him physically unfit to travel or something? I just fancied a dig at Liverpool to be honest
