All going well, so far Bos - veg doing very nicely before the caterpillar/ slug/snail invasion.
Sweet corn, Kohlrabi, tomatoes, rocket, radish, courgettes and many others made a good start. Wildflower bit really picked up this year. Got a so and so of a bamboo that’s too close to the house that has to go which I’m not looking forward to.
Got a couple of small red/white currents that I’m quite excited about, in a middle aged styleeee. I love it. |  |

I got some snake repellent last week, most are harmless but we’ve been getting copperheads in the neighbourhood. That stuff stinks too |  |

My tomato's and my cucumbers failed the year before last, so no seeds last Year and there won't be any this Year.

My tomatoes and chilli plants have been grown from seed and are thriving on the kitchen windowsill. They'll be moving out to the garden tomorrow, when the cold snap is forecast to finish for good. |  | | |

I've taken over a somewhat neglected - but beautiful - garden that's open to the public. We have a bit of a ground fertility problem, and I don't really use chemical fertilisers as they alter the make-up of pollen, to what effect its unsure. So I have piles and piles of leaves breaking down to put on in the autumn.
Anyway, this is a really long-winded way of saying, we're really behind this year, perennial growth is really slow, leaving more bare earth for longer, leading to more weeds. We're splitting and replanting, propagating and sowing seed to try and fill spaces, but rabbit numbers are up.....
It's an endless battle, but it's rewarding and I'm lucky enough to have a job that gives me joy. | |

I had a small greenhouse where I hung six cherry tomato plants in baskets, we had endless flowing cherry tomato's, (tumbling toms) I never had much success with pot grown tomato's though.
I had raised beds (parsnips and carrots).
I spent a few shillings on bags of organic soil.
Gardening Is so hit or miss but totally rewarding.
I had a big 8X4 potting shed where I could sit In the doorway and f uck up every tune I know on the acoustic guitar.
It was bliss living In a village.
We went to Italy for ten days and the Woman from across the road looked after the watering, when we came home I noticed all my hanging strawberry bushes had no fruit left on them, when I asked the Woman what happened to me strawberries she said she ate them. | |

Fortunately, copperheads are more of a nuisance than a danger. A plumber working with me some thirty years ago disturbed one under a house, he got bitten so we took him to hospital, but he was fine, can't remember the meds, nothing heavy, back at work the next day. I have twice spotted rattlesnakes locally and, as an avid forestry walker, this has put me on alert. | |
