Where’s the progress?
at 21:59 7 May 2026

The last two seasons have been right offs because of the injury lists. Pure and simple.

The true measure of any perceived progress made, will or will not, become evident when we can field our best XI on a regular basis.

Next season is critical, in many ways, for many people within the club and the playing squad.

£20 million of that £25 million has been spent on players keeping the treatment room staff busy.

The squad is without question overloaded with crocks and midgets. Dembele/Poku/Saito should be swapped out for players with physicality and durability. Our soft underbelly has been painfully obvious for years.

There is plenty to work on over the summer, including a review of the plethora of so called performance functions and what actual contribution they have made.

We need to start next season with a defensive structure that doesn’t concede goals at the rate we have this season. We will never make any progress until we sort that out and it’s not just about a new right back or keeper.

You really do have to wonder what the hell Steve Bould has been working on to make us so easy to score against.

I thought the young lad Alemayeh, or whatever, looked really good. Plenty of movement, constantly showing for the ball and could control the ball in a way Kone could only dream of.

Promising. The season is gone. It was always going to be a transitional / learning curve type of season and we should kick on next season.

No we don’t. 70% availability is fine. No one should be expected to play every game. Rotation is a must, and there are plenty in the squad that have been far worse than him when it comes to availability.

A solid left back…if the salary is reasonable.

Kone and Celar up front together. The pace and athleticism of those two will put the fear of god into Championship defences next season. Can’t wait. 😜

That can be said of five other players in this current team and is the reason we are getting spanked every week.

JS keeps banging on about a lack of intensity game after game. Clearly no one is taking a blind bit of notice of him.

Something needs to give. Another half arsed, embarrassing defeat against Leicester and I’m getting my pitchfork out of the garden shed.

Enough is enough.

What exactly is he doing to give you the impression that he is a leader?

He, understandably, cuts a very frustrated figure to me. He is being tasked with chasing defenders all game, quite often on is own, because Saito and Vale are hopeless at it, and never gets anywhere near the opposition box, which is the only place he might shine.

Everything about our midfield and strikers is miles below what is required at this level. We are, without a shadow of doubt, bang in trouble.

Which is what Kone does every time he gets it. He’s the absolute antithesis of a hold up striker.

I would like to see him control a ball occasionally. Touch of a trampoline.

If he was 18 he could be considered young, but he’s 23 on his next birthday. Hardly a kid anymore.

What do you think Guerdiola would get out of him exactly?

He works hard, but achieves very little. Needs to operate much closer to the opposition box to get anything remotely useful out of him. Not helped by our non existent midfield and man/child wingers.

Personally I would bench him until the return of Burrell, Chair and Poku. Offers nothing without the right type of support. Not really suited to chasing (and failing to catch) defenders for 90 minutes.

Morgan is young, inexperienced and needs some bulk on him, but he does look like an actual football player, unlike quite a few that absolutely don’t.

No. We don’t buy players that can actually play football. Behave.

Involved….doing what precisely?. He ambles around, can’t control a ball, never wins a header, loses it when he does get it. I don’t get the love for him. Literally no point passing to him. Not that anyone seems capable of actually passing the ball.

Deeply depressing.

Everyone at the club should be ashamed of that performance. An utter disgrace.

Kone, Saito, Smyth, Varane and Vale absolutely hopeless.

This is not a football team. Cannot string 3 passes together. Back to the Ainsworth days of just having people chasing shadows for 90 minutes like a bunch of children. Pathetic.

Our front four consists of two midgets that get flattened as soon as they get the ball, a striker that can’t run or trap a ball and an ex Chelsea academy player with a good left peg, but hasn’t got an aggressive bone in his body.

Add to that the two wall flowers in midfield and it is no wonder we are cannon fodder for most teams in this division in our current guise

I think McClaren was right….we need a “team of men”, instead we have no choice but to throw on more kids like lambs to the slaughter.

QPR thrashed, Boro run riot, night follows day, bear seen heading for wood

Or rather…another humiliating heavy defeat.

This current line up will not win another game this season. Soft as putty in midfield and technically deficient up front. The development boys are absolutely miles off being ready for this division.

Further humiliation to come and yet Cooke and JCS sit on the bench.

Something is badly wrong with this club and JS is sinking in the quagmire.

The list of methodology specialists quoted by Clive is an absolute disgrace. What an utter and complete waste of money. Sack the lot, bring Warnock in and see the difference in two weeks.
The team looks devoid of confidence, belief and spirit. They are beaten before they step onto the pitch. We simply look broken and the fan base are going/have gone the same way.

Apathy indeed.
