WR Derby County - Another game in a weird time slot Match Day Thread
at 22:37 29 Nov 2021

Andre & Warbs both admitted there was a lack of intensity and penetration in the first half and words were needed to ensure we upped th “ante”.
Don’t disagree with your point though Antii, as long as the plan is to move through the gears in the second half.

Do feel that in tight games, the quality and technical ability we do possess is often the reason we can finish teams off. Chair will be a big miss in January.

Way to pedestrian. Back 3 struggling to find any movement in front of them so keep moving sideways and backwards. Has the pace of a training session. Need to pick it up if we want something out of this. Do we want the 3 points or not?!

Agree, all 3 need to get 50+ games under their belts, ideally without further injuries, before we see the best of them. Bags of potential.

Maybe being sober whilst watching is the problem after all?
Gunna get sloshed next time and hope that makes watching less stressful 😆

The point is we allowed them the openings to have sixteen shots at our goal. Just as well it wasn’t Solanke or Mitrovich playing for them as they don’t need a second chance.
There was a point in the first half where Chair and Willock were showboating which is great to watch, but it ultimately ended back with our keeper. Chance creation is a big stat these days and managers bang on about it constantly. Pretty football is all well and good but it needs an end product.
Perspective is a personal experience and reading the posts tonight highlights the difference between the glass half full/empty camps. We won, im delighted, but I personally always look at things from a continuous improvement perspective and there is lots to improve, particularly the cohesive structure of the team .

Agree with all of that Myke, some great individual performances and a few Ropey ones. Adoma didn’t get past the first man with his crosses all night which is bizarre as he is usually pinpoint. He continued to work hard and show for the ball but was dead on his feet after 75 mins.
Love Charlie, but our lack of pace up front doesn’t give us an option when we are under the cosh. Chair and Willock are superb but need another outlet to play up to and feed off. Chaz just doesn’t have the legs for it.

Have to say, even at 2 up, never felt comfortable as we are so open and look vulnerable. Nonetheless, we know we are still not at our best and as Warbs pointed out, we will get better now the injuries are abating. Our best is yet to come.

Dwyer made a shocking decision……a bit like Austin’s decision to lash it rather than place it.
Same result for both……no goal. Good decision making seems to be coming a dying art.

Under no pressure, ball at a good height and the entire goal in front of him. Only needed to direct the ball on goal, but lashed it over. Should be scoring those all day long. Symptomatic of his current form and a few others.

Not one for having a go as I love where we’re at, but the old “need to be more clinical” adage defo applies to the number of opportunities spaffed last night.

Biting my tongue until the return of Field and Wallace.
However, never want to see Chair in that deep lying midfield position ever again and Chaz seriously needs to find his shooting boots. The penalty and spaffed volley from seven yards are not helping our cause.

where do we go from here.

Agree entirely.
We are not the finished article by any stretch, and lack a bit of depth that is now being exposed by injuries. Individual errors will always happen, although ours have come at the worst possible moments and have cost us dearly.
We also lack a bit of nous and experience but that is again understandable. No time to panic or berate individual players, we have to be better than that and these boys don’t deserve it.
Let’s stick with them and encourage them. I like this group of players more than any other than I can remember.
Whatever happens, this is our QPR, built from the ground up with players giving their all for the shirt and showing it in every single game. They deserve better than some of the shit they have been getting so get some perspective and leave it out.

Andre Gray inbound

This is the season we need to go for it, because if we don’t go up we are likely to lose 2, possibly 3 of our best players and will be weaker for it.
Kelman is a decent prospect, but we cannot use this season to develop him in the first team. He needs a full season playing in a competitive environment. If he is the real deal, he will tear it up in the manner of Chair and Eze.
Gray is a proven striker at this level, but has seemed too content to take the money and sit on the bench for my liking. Unless he has the desire and work rate to match, he will get short shrift from the Rangers support and hopefully the management and his team mates. Last chance saloon it is.

Indeed….but can Adomah manage 90 minutes as a wing back?

I think the reason we fall behind is that all teams realise that they need to impose the high press to nullify our desire to play out from the back. This, however, cannot be maintained throughout 90 mins, hence our now regular comebacks. We have the highest points haul of any team from losing positions.
We now need to find a way of countering the early press and avoiding falling behind in the first quarter of the game. We can’t keep coming back from losing positions….the ticker won’t take it for much longer!

Preferably with a flat back four as in the second half. Rather than shoe in players into wing back positions, use Adohma as a right winger, not a wing back. Might be knocking on a bit, but has real quality.

Shocked at how little tenacity Dozzell has, utter lightweight with no protection given to the defence. Passing all over the place.
Defending by the back 3 for the second goal pathetic.

Need to wake up as all the effort on Wednesday will be for nothing.
Bizarre selection from Warbs.

Dickie -- Brilliant or Bungler

He will never win a 10 mt sprint against most attacking players, but he has a great knack of timing his runs out of defence with the ball at his feet to instigate an attack from the back.

He knows he lacks pace and occasionally gets caught, but he reads the game well and positions himself accordingly.

Great signing and my pots. Plenty more to come from this lad.
