The Frankie Friday Music Thread.....RIP on 15:02 - Dec 12 by W13R
Afternoon all........................feeling mellow today so a few from back in the day.
had 'Think' blasting as part of wife's 50th party playlist last week, plenty of the more soulful stuff off this thread got played, the house stuff gonna have to wait for mine in 3 and a bit years!
stuff like below was banned as she is a bit of a disco and soul queen.
not sure if this has been on here yet (i've lost track of the tracks), but i'm not getting tired of it anytime soon. intro a bit 'massive attack' and then the hook kicks in.

WBR, we must be married to the same bird as that's all my wife listens to as well.
Here's another classic that I first heard on LWR back in the day......... storming entrance on this baby!

It's hard - sorry, 'ard - to resist the temptation to post some Polish industrial death thrash or free form ambient Krautrock from 1971 on this thread but somehow, I have managed it so I give you Lionrock, with their catchy take on ska. Both their CDs are decent...

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Thankyou W13R, I've been trying to remember what that tune was for years !
LWR now that was a station, think it was based in Dunkery Road Mottingham. I still had a T Shirt up to about 3 years ago lol
Here's another from 78
Brixton, no problem fella and what a great track again from yourself. That's what I love about this thread, so many people with great taste in music putting up tracks some of us haven't heard for ages or just forgot about for some reason or another?
Keep it going fellas as this is the daddy of all threads!
Acid Jazz anyone?

Yes LWR was classic. Used to listen to Jazzy Ms two shows on there Tuesday and Thursday nights. He had a record shop in West Croydon called Mi Price records.

It was a long time ago but wasn't Giles Peterson on LWR ?
Record shops, Those were the days ! Amazing to think that to get a record you wanted you had to travel round the south circular or go to Soho or something and now it's just a click away.

Thanks mate. Enjoyed the rest of your tunes this morning - its great 'working' from home on a Friday !
Your right about this Thread, I would definitely like to buy LBlock a pint sometime !
I loved a bit of Acid Jazz. Disco wrote a brilliant diatribe about it though I think he's a fan really. You know what I don't remember this being on here....
LWR always makes me think of this as I taped it off their once about '85 but only got the last minute or so and never managed to find it again. It was only this thread that reminded me of it so I have put it up before but I'm sure the odd duplication is OK

Brixton, now this is what I mean I have never heard that Da Costa track before so its never too late to be educated.
I must admit I love a bit of Acid Jazz having grown up and been around a few of the lads in The Brand New Heavies, Young Disciples & Jamiroquai.
Brighton Jazz Bop used to be a great weekend with loads of up and coming bands plus some of the more well known like the above. JTQ were great to see live with the main man smashing the life out of the Hammond keyboard.
I know this was a lot later but what a collaboration with Gil Scott Heron, another legend sadly gone.

Nice one W13 !
Yeah I was a bit of an acid jazz purist when I first heard house stuff back in 86-87, was a right div and felt it wasn't proper or something. Mind you once I heard Phuture Acid Trax that all changed and I was jacking with the best of em.
That must have been pretty sound growing up with that lot bet you've got a few good memories. The Brand New Heavies were brilliant, don't think they always get the credit or respect they deserve
I went to a Jazz/Beer festival in Greenwich in 2010 and they headlined one night and were brilliant. Incognito headlined the other night we went and they were really really good as well. Wish they'd put that event on again.
Used to go to see JTQ regularly in the 90's as my ex girl friend loved them, they were great live.
Good shout with Gil Scott Heron. The bottle is one of my all time favourite tunes.

Sorry but seeing this chat of the Brand New Heavies (one of the best to come out of the Ealing area?) and I cannot pass up the chance to put up a Spackman double.
I love this tune. Was one of my signature tracks --- Eddie the brickie ALWAYS made me play it at any of our do's he was at. Quite a low quality sound version here but a cracking collection of still clips
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

And back to the House tunes.
Negro at his best
And he is still going strong. The guy is a legend. House but nearly always with a retro disco sound. If this isn't a Spackman there is something wrong with us!!

Absolutely brilliant mate. Loved the photos. Plenty of FAC51 itself there when empty. New Order lost a $hit load of money on that club.

ooohhhh Disco you are awful !!
Mate I wasn't even cool enough to look in the Window when Duffer was still in Soho so you must have been doing something right ! Even when it moved to just off Neale Street it was one of those places I went in but hardly ever bought anything as it was a bit too out there for me. Strange that it's now sold in J D Sports. Do you remember Quincy that was just round the corner in floral st ? Oh and Jones also in floral St ?
Wasn't quite as a mad a night as expected and I was thinking of going today but didn't quite get up in time and wasn't able to sort a ticket at short notice. Gutted I missed the Adelaide, I hope you had a mini Frankie meet up with PP and LBlock. Would be great if your all about before the Palace game I will defo be in the Adelaide before that.
What a result aye I hope your son enjoyed it and is sold on the Rangers !
Despite not making it to the game I'm positively glowing....
