| your favourite country/island. on 12:48 - Apr 26 with 966 views | LimehouseR | The Scilly Isles off the coast of Cornwall, in particular Tresco. I used to go with my parents when I was a young lad. Although it can be a bit expensive these days and with a lot of snobby types I decided to go for a week in June in 2017. It was amazing and you completely forget that you are in the UK. I had a week of amazing weather, switched my phone off and had a lot of beautiful empty beaches to myself. All the islands other than St Mary's are almost car free and all have their own charm. Highly reccomended... | | | |

| your favourite country/island. on 13:09 - Apr 26 with 931 views | RamseyR | For me it has to be Spain. Yeah...I've been to far more exotic locations, but Spain & it's islands has the lot. Perfect range of temperatures/climates Mountains/national parks Beaches Great cities Some of the best food in the world in the right places The right balance between work/family Inter-generational mixing/respect Far more independent cafes/restaurants History/Culture/Architecture Thousands of smaller towns/villages where all the everyday stuff just seems less stressed And only 2 hours from the UK | | | |

Going to Rhodes again this year (possibly) will probably be the last time for a while as we want to try out some of the smaller Greek Islands, was meant to go to Skiathos last year but had to cancel last minute so went back to Rhodes again last minute. Want to check out the Caribbean at some point in the near future as well. Anyone here been to St Lucia or Guadeloupe?

Skiathos is decent, the main town can be a bit pricey around the sea front. Quite lively there too, but without the grief. Forgot to add - very handy for a spot of island hopping as well. [Post edited 26 Apr 2020 13:26]

Far far far more than just resorts and Magaluf. For less obvious island shouts, Jeju in Korea is brilliant fun and Saaremaa in Estonia was also excellent in its own way Favourite countries, Spain has everything you could ever want. All kinds of scenery, great food, usually decent climate for me. Otherwise, really want to spend some more time in Korea. Bonus favourite city - have a lot of love for Porto.

I went to St Lucia about 5 years ago, loved the place, I stayed in Marigot Bay, which is away from the real tourist town of Rodney Bay. I thought a lot of the island not been spoilt, trip to The Pitons well worth the effort plenty of great scenery, bush/jungle and bird life is something else, tried to get the humming birds feeding out of my hand on the veranda of the villa we were staying in. Found a few beaches that were very unspoit, food on the whole was very good. Even ended up in a police station at a party, heard all this cool music by the bay it was local plod having a open day, good tunes and plenty of rum. Maybe a bit more laid back than some of the other Caribean Islands but one of those places I would return if the chance ever comes my way.

| your favourite country/island. on 15:29 - Apr 26 with 821 views | Dixie_CT | What a brilliant thread! I’ve done quite about of travelling as my dad worked for BA, I was in the Navy and brother has lived in NZ & Auz for over 15 years (he still sounds like he is from the White City!). Still so much for me to do!!! Loads of my faves been mentioned already but; Spain - Loved Bilbao as a City, Ibiza is stunningly beautiful at times (speaks to my hippy soul) & Tenerife is massively underrated. Australia - Brother lives in Brisbane which I wasn’t fussed with until I got the ferry to North Stradbroke Island. Absolutely feel in love with Sydney and more to the point, Manly. Great beer, grub, views and sports mad!! NZ - went for my brothers wedding in Palmerston North (quiet place), Wellington was cool but Napier was my type of place. Mwanza, Tanzania - I was fortunate to go with the Trust on a work Project. Got sozzled with the chief of police ,who was on our course aimed to train up people to use football to engage with street children. He ended up inviting me to his daughters weddinhg!! Mwanza was brilliant but I did listen to that Reading/Boswanka game in a lodge before watching the second half in the airport. Didn’t sully a great trip but made the plane journey a bit crap. Trondheim, Norway - Beautiful fjords and beautiful women. Went there as a boy sailor and left a salty sea dog. Ahhhhh Andrea Dahl Viggen you beautiful, beautiful woman! US - got married to my first ex wife on Clearwater Beach. That part of Florida is epic! Red snapper and decent music. Vegas is Vegas but loads to see there beyond the neon and dinge. Love California as visited as a kid, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara and LA. I was 5 but I want to go back. UK - Welsh dad so spent loads of time in South Wales, some beautiful mountains and the air/water feel so clean. Llantwit Major is great for beaches. Lived in Belfast with my first wife and son, fantastic city. Warm people, top craic and easy to get about. Do really like a weekend trip Liverpool. Bonkers but brilliant. Seaside has to be Sussex - Pagham, Bracklesham Bay, Felpham, Littlehampton and the Witterings! Mmmm crab sandwich and a pint West London is wonderful! Currently in Richmond (more SW) and its a great place. Love Acton, Chiswick (would live here if I could) Hammersmith & Bush. It’s gods country people, look beyond the crass narrative. London on a Sunny day is hard to top. Listening to Waterloo Sunset On the Southbank with a delicious beer! Yum Valletta, Malta - all about the people. I was there in 9/11 and all was a bit edgy. The USS ships had to bugger off but the locals couldn’t be nicer. Couldn’t buy a pint! | | | |

| your favourite country/island. on 12:27 - Apr 26 by MrSheen | Going to places for work gives you a different and usually unfavourable view of a place that you have to fight. I’ve been to Thailand three times, but for a total of about seven days and never set foot out of Bangkok - barely set foot out of the car as I was in traffic so much of the time. I’m sure I’ll go back some time to take a proper look. The one place I won’t is China, didn’t enjoy my times there at all. |
China on the whole is a complete karsi. The big cities on the surface look quite spectacular but there is always that underlying China to it which I find quite unsavoury. I've been to many other Karsi's like Manilla, but thats total poverty and deprivation. I cant put my finger on it but China just feels totally fake. IMO. Best things about China Irish Bars Western Run/owned hotels Airport departure lounges. Hong Kong on the other hand is how I'd like China to be.

China’s distrust of its people is shown in its airports. We were delayed 4 hours and couldn’t get a drink.

Ive not been to too many places but liked North Coast of Spain just after the summer, weather, pace of life and food just seemed so good. Edinburgh for a big town, but that's probably football biased, and we do like a visit to London as there's something different to do every time. Edit Wexford in Ireland was a great trip, went for work purposes and met really friendly people. True salt of the earth people, perhaps got lucky but seemed to be everyone we met [Post edited 25 Apr 2020 18:18]

| your favourite country/island. on 23:13 - Apr 25 by MrSheen | I hope I haven’t been there yet. I’ve actually liked most places I’ve been to, but a couple of out of the way places that haven’t had a mention yet are Transylvania in Romania and Shikoku in Japan. The place I’d most like to visit is Georgia (the country not the state), but the place I keep going back to is Ireland. Actually a strangely wonderful island I went to is Terschelling, which is a Friesian island. The south side of the island is spick and span Dutch, the north side a continuous sand dune beach for about 12 miles. There’s a bizarrely remote bar/diner at the far east end. We went there for a wedding that was called off the week before. I listened to the Cardiff play off on a crackling car radio. [Post edited 26 Apr 2020 0:35]

Transylvania, Japan (possibly the Shikoku Pilgrimage) and Georgia are all on my bucket list. A friend/customer went to Georgia last year and said it was every bit a great as I'd heard.

On a positive note New Zealand does take some beating. I would recommend Armenia, Cuba, Japan, Colombia and Lebanon as more leftfield places to visit. |
Colombia. Fantastic place
