| Sam Field Joins On Loan on 18:55 - Feb 4 by OldPedro | Will we have to pay compensation due to his age and the time he has spent at West Brom from an early age? Anyone know? |
No, we would only have to pay the pre-agreed fee, I'd imagine. Compensation's only payable if no fee is agreed.

Watching that, the thing that leaps out at me is Charlie's cameo. Field says all the stuff I'd expect and I imagine means it, but obviously whether he comes off depends on injuries, chances in the 1st team, whether he gets home sick etc, it's all potential at the moment. But Austin popping his head in showed what people have said about his influence in the changing room - a big loud personality, (which we need with all our Polite Nice Boys) but unlike some big personalities he's not all about The Big I Am, he's going out of his way to make a new guy feel welcome. That's not potential, that's the actual thing on camera.

Charlie even knocked before he went in. The right stuff.

Yes it's one or the other. If they have an option and are prepared to use it, then it is likely to be a fee.

Ah OK, so the option to buy is based on his compensation as a youth grad - same as with Bright. That makes sense and makes the price even more reasonable. Looks like if he can stay fit until the end of the season, we'll take him

| Sam Field Joins On Loan on 17:44 - Feb 4 by simmo | The injury record is def a concern as he's being brought in mainly due to us having 2 other injury prone players out for the long term... But then it could be that he's past the worst and with proper management, will be alright. Cousins taught us that - he played 10000 games in a row for Charlton then couldn't stay fit for us... I like the fact it's an option to buy, as long as the pre-agreed price is realistic and low. Even with a good 3 or 4 months he'd still have a fair amount of risk attached - but the upside of a 22 year old with a good academy background that plays in DM is vast. I like this one. |
The flip side of the injury thing is that Richard Dunne had had long term injury problems before he came to us but then seemed - if I remember correctly - to be able to play regularly with no issues
| "Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1." |

| Sam Field Joins On Loan on 18:33 - Feb 4 by francisbowles | He's out of contract at the end of the season. So, I suspect whatever we pay will be to buy their option on him(assuming they have one). They are currently prepared to let him go, so it shouldn't be much. |
No, his contract runs until 2022. By that summer he'll be 24 though so I suspect WBA will have been more interested in securing a substantial sell-on rather than haggling over a fee now. You can kind of understand their fans feelings with the club cutting their ties now given they're likely to get relegated and undergo a big revamp under a new manager and would have half a season (his birthday is May 8) to assess if he could be part of that without risking the compo. He might even have impressed sufficiently during this loan! I guess with a sell-on advantage, parachute payments, and the lad's affections they could expect to lead the bidding if we do do the hard work making a player of him they'd like back. Edit: sorry, I'd missed that's it's until 2021 with a year's option they're not exercising. [Post edited 5 Feb 2021 14:34]
