Five in a matchday squad, all playable. Several clubs have six. Model club Preston have seven! (One's a goalie but shouldn't count under emergency rules I think).

Many of our fans want him playing in the first team. He’s been unlucky with a couple of injuries so he never quite gets a run in the team. When we sacked Pulis and Megson came in for a few games he was our star player. Then Pardew came in and destroyed him in the dressing room at Newcastle and he didn’t really ever recover.”

Seems there was a story in the Mail about it. Key section if you want to avoid Mick McCarthy's face and sofa bed adds is: "Senior players failed to buy into Pardew's methods, particularly upset at his stern approach to younger team-mates, which included a stinging rebuke of 19-year-old Sam Field in front of the team after the defeat at Manchester City. Field had been ill that week".

| Sam Field Joins On Loan on 15:27 - Feb 2 with 2537 views | derbyhoop | Seems a good deal. Good player by reputation, injures hampered development, loan to possible buy. Doubt due to injury but if he was the fully fit, finished article QPR wouldn't have a chance of getting him. | |

Don't worry, most are injured/unfit anyway 😜

I like how self-aware he is... he's aware that he is challenging himself and getting out of his comfort zone. Hope he meets the challenge.

Hopefully a couple of these young lads (Willock, Kelman, Thomas, Field) go on to be top players. Were becoming a breeding ground for young talent 👌 long may it continue. [Post edited 3 Feb 2021 6:38]

Yes agree with this. Loved the fact he talked about how much it meant to him having Charlie talking to him for twenty minutes and seeking him out to say hi. Shows he wants to learn from everyone. Definitely the right sort and humble enough to see coming here as a boost to his career not a downward step. Looking forward to seeing him play.

It's encouraging to see signs of Charlie taking to a mentorship role and buying into the different club we're aiming for to the one he knew. We've got the personality and seniority we immediately needed but seeding a Bartonist culture clash with his platform would be catastrophic.

Way to go. You could also mention Amos and Masterson who had to leave PL clubs to get game time. They won't all work out but if 50% do then we'll have a decent (young) team next season.

I can't help but get the vibe that he's a bit down and disillusioned with football. Sounds very low on confidence and needs a hug. Cheer up Sam, you're at the Rangers now!

It's a massive move for him. Local lad, Baggies family, been there since he was 8, fans favourite and acknowledges their frustration/support at leaving in the interview - without insulting us, he's not going to give it the biggest one is he. But he did seem well up for it, to me at least.
| Sam Field Joins On Loan on 17:44 - Feb 4 with 1450 views | simmo | The injury record is def a concern as he's being brought in mainly due to us having 2 other injury prone players out for the long term... But then it could be that he's past the worst and with proper management, will be alright. Cousins taught us that - he played 10000 games in a row for Charlton then couldn't stay fit for us... I like the fact it's an option to buy, as long as the pre-agreed price is realistic and low. Even with a good 3 or 4 months he'd still have a fair amount of risk attached - but the upside of a 22 year old with a good academy background that plays in DM is vast. I like this one. | |

He's out of contract at the end of the season. So, I suspect whatever we pay will be to buy their option on him(assuming they have one). They are currently prepared to let him go, so it shouldn't be much.

Will we have to pay compensation due to his age and the time he has spent at West Brom from an early age? Anyone know?
