Car theft on 18:47 - Mar 13 by Ned_Kennedys | Toyota offer a cat lock for £250: not 100% foolproof but most of these to55wrs can steal an unprotected cat converter in just a few minutes so it acts as a good deterrent as it would take them a lot longer to get the lock off first. |
Complete waste of £250. Generally the cats are removed with an angle grinder anyway. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 8:27]

Car theft on 13:35 - Mar 13 by BazzaInTheLoft | Sorry to be that guy, and I know I should know better than to engage by now, but if someone had said ‘all white people are racist’ or ‘all benefit claimants are parasites’ you would rightly have the hump. Using the term Pikey and intimating that they are all thieves just ain’t right, especially knowing as I do that there are contributors on this forum of traveller heritage. This ain’t the 1980s anymore. Not after a protracted debate or a row, and I hoped Norf could have quietly got rid of this, but think on is all I’ll say. Hope you get the issue sorted Toboboly as I know from experience what a ball ache it is having your car nicked. [Post edited 13 Mar 2021 13:39]

No they are not: most of these thefts occur in highly visible places, often during the day, so the criminals need to get it done very quickly. A cat lock acts a big deterrent in this regard, especially as there are still numerous unprotected vehicles around which are much easier targets. | | | |

Thefts are not mostly in highly visible locations. As you rightly say they go for easy targets first. Quieter spots, preferably at night but if they have committed to getting underneath your car then it is because it is already an easy target and shearing off a couple of extra bits of metal most likely won't stop them. I could remove the Toyota lock in a few minutes, so I have no doubt a scrote could do it in half the time. I have seen bespoke locks on 4x4's that are very good and would definitely put a thief off but the Toyota design is flawed and extremely vulnerable to an attack with an angle grinder. There are alarms with specific sensors for the cat which are very effective and wouldn't be detected until they went off but strategic parking to avoid access and theft in the first place plus a decent insurance policy if the worst happens is often the best bet. Edit: if you have already bought the Toyota lock then welding some extra plates on will make it more secure. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 11:11]

A few. I posted a strange story a couple of years ago about some bloke shouting "death to the Queen", when he overheard me explaining the plate to a fellah who'd asked if I was an electrician, thinking it meant 'we require more power'! Edit...though I've been told someone spotted it and posted a pic on the Rangers Facebook, but gawd only knows, don't use that service. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 16:52]
