Same, Started wondering what was going on around the Thierry Henry era at Arsenal.
Apparently you cut the long sock off at the ankle. Put on a short sports sock on your foot then tape the long sock to the short sock around the Achilles area. Hence the long sock now goes over the knee. Take a look how much tape there is around that area. FIFA rules though state everything has to be the same colour. Players had white socks below the tape and they clamped down if the top sock was not white.

Useless information pulled from the recesses.

as long as it's not on a defender..........
a proper CB should be in predominantly black boots, regulation socks, shorts not pulled down like a basketball player or that ex-Dirty Liids tvvat at Brentford fc & no gloves

The custom is nicked from baseball where they call the long socks stirrups. apparently it makes them look leaner and faster. Who knew?
First football player I remember doing it was Ruben Sosa in the early 90's.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Complaints about the short socks with all the tape on them came from officials as they couldn’t tell one player from another when observing contact etc. A lot of refs decide on kit changes as well to differentiate players especially at corner kicks, back and side view of the shirts need to be clear. Same with under clothes to be the same as colour as the kit. This years West Brom kits a good example. Who’d be a ref anyway.
Didn’t Holloway remark about a player who joined the club wearing white boots telling him he’d better be good. Blackpool center half, can’t recall his name. Ian something?

Evatt? Bit of a flop here if I recall. Bolton manager now apparently
Did anyone ever heat up Dubbin before application?
Course not, you rub it in with your finger using a circular motion until the leather fully absorbs it! Eventually the boots will be soft and supple plus will fit like a glove. God I sound so bloody old!
