If, as we are being told, this new variant is transmitting easily and doubling every two-three days, I doubt there'll be a sports fixture left on by Christmas, let alone a football match.
For football, I can't imagine we're going to complete this season, start next season early to accommodate the World Cup, and then have the World Cup as scheduled.
Something will have to give.

The season will get finished, the christmas schedule might end up being a lot lighter than normal and if we end up in lockdown may well be behind closed doors again but they'll finish it

I'm not sure. The issue is not having the booster jab, it's testing positive, and if omicron is so transmissable, testing positive will be regular and common amongst players. It's all very well Johnson telling us that everyone will be offered the booster by end December, but practically the population won't be anywhere near jabbed before end of January.
How will 6-8 weeks of no football be fitted in by end of May?

We lost 3 months of football the other season and still ended up finishing it. you may well be right but lets just wait and see how it pans out.
I don’t think they are stupid enough to fake tests, especially in the post Paliadini era, but I presume we have around 50 odd eligible players.
Surely we could muster 16 out of those? Remember Spurs v Middlesbrough when the whole team were in the hotel shitting their guts out an hour before KO and they still got fined.
Maybe Covid is different in that the potential for infection is the issue. I just hope they have receipts!
I’m currently in York with the missus and persuaded her to attend Brammel Lane tomorrow on the pretext that we spend all day today humping round the fcking Christmas market, so cheesed off to say the least.

At least you'll have more time to enjoy the shopping.
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain)
Find me on twitter @derbyhoop and now on Bluesky
Bazz - everyone is allowed opinions - I'm a big believer in that but you posted this
"If I was the FA or EFL or whoever is in charge of fining for not fulfilling fixtures, I would look at our injury list and consider the sudden one day before fixture covid outbreak very fortuitous for us and would make sure I get proof of everyone’s covid test.
I would also ask why our U23s or recalled loanees couldn’t fulfill places. I think most of them have already had league experience so the FA/EFL will take a dim view of pulling out."
You have now spent the last few days lambasting anyone who implies that you said the club was up to something or that something was amiss?
Either you think the covid outbreak is genuine or you don't - it can't be both!

The leap from a tongue in cheek Jimmy Hill gif and saying ‘this is fortuitous and I hope they have their ducks in order’ to saying ‘they falsified covid tests’ is yours not mine.

OK for the final time, you said that it was possible the EFL would ask for 'proof'
Medical records are private, as you well know, so the 'proof' that we have covid cases would have to come from our doctor.
End of story surely, unless, as you implied, he is lying, and we don't have covid cases, in which case as I said, a) I find that hard to believe and b) he would be in serious trouble with the GMC.
Maybe simpler if you just answered the question, without the word play and being evasive - do you think we have a covid issue at the club or not?

I’ve said what I’ve said.
Take it or leave it, perceive my tone however you wish, and come to any conclusion correctly or incorrectly that ends this tedium quickest.
Yep, apologise for getting dragged into the conspiracy theories arguments.
Time to press the ignore button on a couple (more ) threads!
I get suckered in too, and the sad fact is, those that believe in these wild conspiracies are probably to far gone to have their minds changes, hopefully by replying and countering their often unsubstantiated claims we can stop some others from being suckered in
