Jeff Hendricks Signing 11:20 - Mar 13 with 6307 viewsnumptydumpty

IMO the reason for our slump

A player that wasn't getting any game time in a very poor Premier league team, waltzes into our first team and has been first choice centre mid ever since.

Dozell and Ball have had periods of excellent form this season.

Amos has shown great character after coming back from second potential career threatening injury.

Sam Field has come back strong and consistent.

Thomas was showing great endeavour as an impact sub.

Johansen although out of form has undoubted quality.

Think all of the above could potentially have had their nose put out of joint by Hendricks arrival and is it coincidence that since he been picked our form has slumped.

The squad were all being kept happy and tbf I fear this scenario has behind the scenes upset the apples in the cart.

Such an unnecessary signing and seemed to happen as we could not find attacking player where we needed more depth.

Hope I am proved wrong and results, performances and most importantly squad togetherness re formed and strong.

Appreciate its an easy assumption to make and we not know if all midfielders adversely affected by this decision are actually a tad miffed but its a conclusion as a fan I am currently assuming.

Hopefully not but one of the weirdest unnecessary signings that I potentially have witnessed.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, is the phrase that comes to mind.

Three goals and three assists from Hendricks today and I stand corrected please !!!!

Great post and going off today it looks like Chair might have hit rock bottom. He was invisible and basically a marked man combined with that nasty tackle from behind at half (unpunished of course ) he blew his top.
It might be a huge wake up call for him watching the boys pull it out without him like AFCON absence so look for him to pick it back up for the final push.
I believe Hendrick will deliver when the pressure is really intense in April because the man might be public enemy no 1 right now but he can really play IMO

I hope so.

I guess it's an experienced head.

It seems strange currently but who knows last minute at Wembley, perhaps a guy on the wane can become a legend with one kick of the ball....

Sounds bit far fetched that...

If you're going to quote from the Book of Revelation
Don't be calling it the Book of Revelations
There's no "s" it's the Book of Revelation
as revealed to St John The Divine.
See also Mary Hopkin.
She must despair.

I guess we can add Jeff Hendrick to that list too.

Why can't you say orangutan?
Why can't you just say Ku klux klan?

This is getting a bit niche

"Amos.....he’s ours and he deserves to be picked ahead of Hendrick"

Agreed

Nothing against Hendrick per SE, but that comment sums it up.

he was really poor first half, thought he was a bit better second half but was right to take him off, I wouldn't be starting him in his current form

WTF was he doing for the disallowed goal. Amos isn’t Pirlo but he’s ours and he deserves to be picked ahead of Hendrick.

Yes that was super sloppy. The commentators heaped praise on the Luton press but quite simply Jeff was careless with the pass.

I think it's a bit simplistic and unfair to blame the mini-slump all on Hendricks but I do agree that it's a signing that we didn't need.

I think it’s over simplifying it to lay the blame at Hendrick’s door . Several other players have been below par in the same period (Chair, Dickie, Stef) plus an almost complete lack of input from the 3 strikers - when fit . I’d be surprised if Warbs would allow a bad dressing room atmosphere to develop because of one new arrival but only he’d know that . The drop in form also coincided with Chair walking back into the team after AFCON, so it’s a combination of factors, not all down to Hendrick IMO.

I agree. I thought he had a poor match today, particularly in the first half but has contributed in other matches. I wouldn't write him off but I wouldn't start him on Wednesday either. Certainly there have been a number of reasons why we haven't fired. Injuries, maybe feeling the pressure, players being off par. Some mistakes in selection and timing of subs by Warbs, particularly for the Blackburn game, some reffing decisions going against us. It's certainly not down to one player. And I admit that I wrote Wallace off when he started with us but he's been great since.

I also understand the reasoning of playing our own young prospects too.

I do enjoy a bit of pedantry now and then, so I'll join in.

The bloke who actually wrote the thing referred to it as: "The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place."

You've quoted the title the church later gave this piece of writing which, by the way, isn't a book. The author, John, would not have recognised being called 'St John the Divine' which was, again, a title the church later gave him.

Sorry, I'll shut up now

I've got to say, that is top, top pedantry,

I've no idea what you're on about, but respect anyway.

Getting back to the OP, well, I dunno really, but I do think it is risky to bring in a new player when the boys you've got are playing well, it's unsettling.

Which was why I didn't buy the idea that we ought to get in a player here or there and it was bound to make things better.

In particular, I didn't think midfield was really the area we were weak in.

He really needs to be dropped for Forest.

Strange signing from the start and doesn't add anything to the team. He is too slow and consistently goes backwards which has been part of our problem for the last 4 weeks

Field and Amos as the 2 at Forest for me

Got to assume Dozzell's red card a few months back has really killed his chances this year to get back into the side.

I would prefer we play with Dozzel or Amos over Hendrick. It could be a real killer to continue with him as the players we actually own who might progress next season aren't getting game time and are watching him play dogsh*t but still get picked.

I think he and Dozell are similar in that a couple of outstanding passes in a game mask the overall lack of contribution, and even an off form Johanson will put in a couple of crackers per game and Dozell I would is far more mobile.

Underwhelmed
