Words to one of our chants 10:11 - Dec 8 with 4731 viewsrocktour

Does anyone have the actual words to our version of the chant that begins 'Oh no, you should have seen us coming' and ends 'top see the Queens Park Rangers'? I'll confess that after 39 years in the South Africa Road, I'm unsure about the middle bit. Need it for a research thing.
Thanks Russell

Running Down the Uxbridge Road

My understanding is its...

Ohhh my lads
You should have seen us running
Running down the Uxbridge Road you should have seen us running
All the lads and lasses smiles on their faces
We ran down Uxbridge Road
To see the Queens Park Rangers!

I'm sure there's variations of it though.

The song was originally the traditional 'Blaydon Races' that was adopted by Newcastle fans. I think our adapted version goes:

Oh my lads you should have seen us coming
Running down the Uxbridge Rd you should have seen us coming
All the lads and lasses there with smiles upon their faces
Running down the Uxbridge Rd
To see the Queens Park Rangers!

I brought a friend once, who's a Newcastle fan and he nearly fell off his seat when he heard we had a version of it.

Yes, it's a 19th century Geordie folk tune called The Blaydon Races, Blaydon being the nearest race track to Newcastle

I heard an academic chap on the radio describing how, in the early days of professional football, crowds would often adopt popular Music Hall songs of the day as their teams' anthems. Newcastle's Blaydon Races is one that has survived, as is West Ham's I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles.

I can't find any reference to this online, but here is a (rather lengthy) academic account of football chants in the Victorian / Edwardian era:

I have heard it sung as “To see the queue at sainsburys.”

Saw Lindisfarne play it live once, sent shivers down the spine.
I remember us signing it in the 70’s!

There were a few shared songs and chants in the 70’s including “you’ll never walk alone.”I don’t think anyone else sings it today apart from Liverpool and Celtic.

Watching The Big Match Revisited and the like from the 70s and 80s, loads of fans from different clubs sang YNWA. But now it's the preserve of Liverpool and no one else. Has football become more tribal?

Captain Jack is probably the only unique QPR chant? Although it makes very very little actual reference to QPR other than "You can be my Rangers man..."

We're all unimaginative as football fans and steal everything off each other.

That said, have many other clubs ever utilised Chim-Chiminee or My Old Mans A Dustman?

The trend now seems to be to copy the songs of the big Argentinian clubs. It is in Italy where there are many Argentines living [mainly with Italian descent] but ive heard Liverpool and Celtic fans do it over hear.Anyone fancy starting it up at Loftus Rd?

As the b@stards ran too fast.

I remember us singing “bubbles” to the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tune; probably late ‘70’s. It works really well but it stinks of naff.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

For me, the best ever and most distinctive QPR chant I've ever heard is "Roooooodneeeeey". It echoed around LR like no other and spooked the opposition and their fans.
