Why are Talksport trying to Americanise football? 11:23 - Jan 27 with 3651 viewsloftboy

On top of their “Game day” instead of match day and “shut outs” instead of clean sheets, I’ve just had an email off them informing me that Man City and Arsenal are “facing off” doing my head in.

I am slightly confused here PinnerPaul what exactly is wrong with her saying that .

It translates as “ I’m going to help myself” when in fact you want to be served.
It’s extremely bad English, I once asked a bloke in McDonald’s (about the same age as me) what American school he went to, he knew what I meant, he was just trying to be “cool”.
On a side note my eldest son who has autism watches a lot of American TV, in my car recently he referred to the windscreen as a windshield and the petrol station as a gas station.
I nearly made him walk!

Never comfortable with the 'can I get', though I would not fall into the 'may I have, which sounds subservient to my ear. I'm a straightforward I'll have type of bloke.

Hey Boston, what about when people come up to you and say ‘give me the time’

I always lie.

Yeah, i blame youtube, ticktok etc.

My 5 year old daughter says candy instead of sweets and so on. I do correct her but it like swimming against the tide.

The use of "Physicality" in sports bugs me. It's a pointless, makey-uppy pseudo word for "getting stuck in".

Some are really quite common and used without people even realising, even relatively sane people on here at times, one example being dropping the 'on' in 'see you ON Saturday' - increasingly normal to say 'See you Saturday' it seems.

I've also noticed people starting to say that someone was really 'pissed' at someone instead of 'pissed OFF' - that's a really disturbing development.

The one crumb of comfort I'd offer to most is yes, they are happening, but if someone dropped you in the middle of Detroit at this moment there'd still be a pretty noticeable difference...

I'm guilty on the "see you Saturday" one.
Never realised.

""That is why we recommend avoiding general 'the' labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the wealthy, the disabled, the college-educated," it wrote.

For example, a better term than "the poor" was "people with incomes below the poverty line", it added."

“Anytime soon”. The usage of this one has reached epidemic proportions.

It’s the artist formerly known as “In the near future ”. Grrrrr

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

"May I have?"

Truly rude and very common in America is 'I'll take...' As in 'I'll take the burger and fries'. That's Americans for you: take, take, take!
