I’d say 1983. It’s when I stopped watching top of the pops or listening to music radio. I was 13.
Great music has been made since then but not in the charts or in the general consciousness.
This is fact and also total bollocks. But I’m right.
I loved JoBoxers. Recently Yola is f u Ming brilliant.
I fell off the wagon.

With you 100% on the 60's and early 70's. Very innovative and quality music was made then. Listening to music now I find myself selecting more and more quality recordings from that time. There's often more zip in it, even from the great musicians who started then and kept going for decades. Clapton a great example. |  | | |

Take the point about 'charts' and music not being in the general consciousness with no TOTP, The Tube, Old Grey Whistle Test, mainstream TV show or whatever these days but good grief there's absolutely tons on brilliant new music out there catering to every taste. 6 Music alone has specialist shows covering Rock, Indie, electronic (techno, house etc), reggae, hip-hop blah blah all of which cover brand new stuff as well as old school. And then there's dozens of internet radio stations and websites. Concede you probably need to dig a bit deeper these days but to suggest there's no good new music around is absolute twaddle. It's healthier than ever. |  | | |

What you need is a smart phone, an internet service, a free Spotify account and once that is in place, create a ton of playlists, or even one long playlist, which has all the music you have loved, and love, so you need never listen to another rank DJ again.
The benefit of lots of playlists is that Spotify will create playlists too, based on yours, so you get to hear songs that you had forgotten about or never heard. My latest was Coconut by Harry Nilsson, I had completely forgotten the song and who the artist was.

I tuned in to Radio 2 recently for the first time in ages, and started getting irritated by the bland pop shite they were turning out. Reminds me of Radio 1, I thought to myself.
That’s when I realised - I’m too old for Radio 2 😱

80s is a weird one for me, on the whole, I don't listen to much 80s music, yet some of my favourite albums were released in this time period.
