I'm hopeless at 'em. My indulgence is the cryptic crossword. There's an old joke - I get up in the morning, have a shave and do the Times crossword. Then I have another shave.
I can do them, even the super-fiendish but although it's a good exercise for the brain, I'm not sure why as I don't learn anything from it and would rather do a good quiz or cryptic crossword. The Times Quick Cryptic is fairly easy and fun, but I often struggle to get going with the main Times Crossword. My favourite is the Private Eye Cryptic Crossword.
I used to do Sudoku years ago and then kakuro (which I prefer), then cryptic crosswords. Nowadays I'm more into chess and chess puzzles. I like puzzles, my brain seems to need them. I'm also a fiendishly good scrabble player :)

I'm a pub quiz clever-dick, but I just can't do cryptic crosswords. Somehow I can locate any old junk fact instantly if it's in the memory bank, but I can't think round corners.

Interesting. I'm like Sudoku and Kakuru but any cryptic crossword is beyond me.
