Billy Bragg originally wrote the song 'New England' however when Kirsty McColl asked to cover it she found that it to short to release as a single so Billy wrote the last 2 verses for her. Since her sad passing Billy now includes the lines in her honour when he performs the song, he often changes key to mark the change. I still wobble if I hear it.

Songs which always bring a tear to my eye, for lyrical and emotive reasons are these two.
I remember two particular moments with these songs.
Just the bit where it goes "I want to love you... but oh oh oh" it's just an epic vibe!!! the whole LP is top 5 stuff for me.
Also this offering from Big Star, again the whole LP is a super evocative downer but in terms of an album finale, you can't beat the fragile beauty in this. Alex Chilton is really showing his soul here. Something really touched me with this about accepting adulthood.
