We love our former U's, well most of them anyway, so thought I'd start a thread where we can keep up with them.
Thought I'd kick things off with a happier moment for Matt Jay in Essex as he scored a long ranger against Chelmsford at the weekend. It wasn't a joyous return though as Torquay shipped two late goals to lose 3-2 after leading 2-0.

His rejection of the contract extension at Col U to play at a higher level hasn't really worked out. I'd imagine he'll end up either in League Two or the National League next season although if Chelmsford are paying better than most then he might stay.

Chelmsford might be replacing Braintree in the Nation League next season.
After a slow start to the season, they are currently 9th after thrashing Matt Jay's (remember him!) Torquay 0-5. Lyle Taylor (again) scoring the 3rd.
Egbo started the match and lasted 74' before being subbed off. Tom Lapslie (the Spurs Slayer) comes off the bench in the 60'.
They have a couple of games in hand on a few teams above them in the play-offs.

don't think we let Ihovien go - he was sold transfer deadline day to Peterborough last season!
Oscar Thorn could have made a difference too with the amount of assists he produced for us in the short time he played for us - but still he wasn't let go either, as he was sold to Lincoln and like Brad has been unfortunate with injuries!

From the same game, someone who we did let go was Sowunmi, who traveled the length a breath on the team bus, but rarely featured due to Eastman and Prosser being first choice .
Must be getting old, has Andy Woodman is totally unrecognisable to the guy who was a very capable U’s keeper many moons ago.
When ever I hear Woodman giving a team talk he sounds like Phil Parkinson. I guess that is where he learnt his trade.
Woodman played for the U’s under Steve Whitton, and had left before Parky took the reins, where Simon Brown was first choice, but agree with your comment. Watched part of the Bromley game, how time has changed , where the ball was in the air more than on the deck, especially with every team now having a long throw expert, something the U’s don’t seem to possess .

when we did (Josh Powell), we barely used it! Who would you aim for? Payne, Read, Lisbie???
As Danny hinted in his post-match interview after the defeat against Bromley about changing the way we play/set-up, so we may have to change personnel to employ new tactics like long throws and goals from Set Pieces.

So long to the above 3 players then!
Yes, we are not the biggest side in the league and not advocating putting the midfield trio in the box, but couple of the defenders and it does not mean every time we win a throw, just has important to mix and match. Goals from set pieces for the U’s is a very damaging statistic this season. The best two exponent of smaller guys winning headers for the U’s were Scott McCleish and Mike Packer. Another Mark Sale or John Froggatt needs to be on the shopping list then .
