I haven’t been this despondent for a long time. That’s probably my best chance ever of seeing Dale play in a cup final at Wembley disappear. Every week I seem to come away thinking if only….and I was the same yesterday. If their keeper hadn’t produced a couple of decent saves to deny Barlow and Hendo. If only Gilmour’s shot had hit the inside of the post and gone in instead of bouncing back off the keeper. If only Taryn had buried that free header. The ironic thing is that, with three minutes of stoppage time gone, we had a chance to really bore Spennymoor to death by the corner flag. For once we drove forward and smashed over the cross….. Random thoughts strike as well. I think Tobi was definitely missed down the right. If he was suspended for accumulating yellow cards I hope that one of them wasn’t for running off the pitch at Leamington! We’re critical of their second goal but the first equaliser was just as daft with possession needlessly conceded. And this keeper may be decent with the ball at his feet but has anyone actually seen him save a shot yet? I agree 100% with Fitzochris that recruitment needs to include a permanent keeper as well as the other positions that he mentions. There were two factors yesterday as well. One was the strong wind which no one else seems to have mentioned. The other is that we were, yet again, slow to get to second balls all over the pitch. A problem that needs addressing. How BJ lifts this team for Tuesday I don’t know. A major challenge. And I’ll be in the Sandy as usual on Saturday but I don’t expect more than 2000 other souls to bother.
Yellow cards are competition-specific and TAR was booked v Leamington and Altrincham, which triggered the suspension.

Wind blows, rain falls, its the same for both teams.. The issue is, you either accept it and play on or worry about it and let it affect how you play. I think we have a set-up that worries too much, overthinks situations and fills heads with problems that don't exist. I have no idea how a situation can arise where a fit body, albeit a young player isn't a better bet than a player on one leg who is expected to take a penalty... Or how a player like Kingdon has to sit that game out on the bench rather than changing the system... And if Kelly isnt rated as capable of taking over between the sticks, why is he still here? And why are we so injury prone? Something isnt right and there are too many somethings that point to the management of the squad, or lack thereof.... Go through the squad list, there are at least 10 serious lengthy injuries, its not normal....and so many hamstrings.. why?
Just hoping the club are not held responsible for the moron in the Sandy Lane end who threw a bottle of water at their keeper that hit him on the back.

Sir Peter Ogden was brought up near Lowerplace, i believe, and would have no illusions about elements among the youth of Rochdale
For his son Cameron however, yesterday may have been a real eye-opener and insight into the issues which towns like Rochdale have to face up to
I've no doubt there will be 'interesting' conversations at the club, on more than one topic

This is why Jim needs to be asked decent challenging questions in the post match interviews. Perhaps if his rationale was explained some might be a little less critical or perhaps even more so.

We were asked to turn up in colours. Many did. We were asked to get the stadium rocking. We did. After twenty minutes, the stadium was silent. The regulars were shaking their heads. The big new crowd were bored to tears. Jim ball, again. It was awful, boring, turgid, innefectual rubbish in the first half. If any of the newbies went home after that, you could not blame them. Second half, we had a go, as we can, and it worked. Poor goals to concede but many chances we coud've converted to make it 3-1 or 3-2 and a visit to Wembley. Nah. The Spennymoor lads who went to work this week beat the sauna boys. Good luck to them. Jim can whine as much as he likes post-match but that first half let us down massively. We've seen that type of rank performance so many times, and yet, it is repeated again and again. Today, in front of a big crowd that could have helped to sell "Project 5000" so much. His tactics failed this club today. Again.
He has the chance to rescue the season in the play offs but that is his last chance. So many regulars are sick to death of this unwatchable tippy tappy tripe when we are so much better attacking. Many are reconsidering their faith in this manager and also season card purchases for the 2025/6 campaign. Understandable. He can change by results or he has to be changed.

Excellent Sandyman, I thoroughly agree with everything you've posted here, I'd like you add that pre match I suggested that Spennymoor would come to the COA all guns blazing looking to win the game whilst Dale would be instructed to play tippy tappy tripe....... however, I have to admit that in my heart of hearts I was very confident that this morning I along with hoards of Dale fans would be making their arrangements for their visit to Wembley !

Thanks for clarifying that. To my mind it was two needless bookings then as from memory I think the second one came in the first half against Altrincham when he got tangled in handbags involving Gordon and Newby.

Do professional footballers understand that running the ball to the corner flag with 3 minutes left isn’t boring or cheating? It’s called tactics! Yet our glory hunter players decide it’s worth risking a shot on goal & ultimately giving their keeper the ball back to hoof upfield and a counter attack chance. They need to watch that Newcastle/Liverpool cup final, and watch how much effort those Geordie players made to stop Liverpool from even touching the ball in injury time.

Perhaps they should have said during or after Jim's pre match team talk. No boss we are going to go for it.

It is no easier to take on Sunday morning for me also..
firstly 442 is one of us and isn't the enemy, I agree with chunks of what he is trying to say..
The day started badly with the turnstile fiasco.. see the separate thread. The experiment of the drum and the singing section imploded they have to be back in the Sandy lane ASAP as Yoof who cannot behave are either aligned with or drawn towards this section of support. the full time scenes just unacceptable and disgraceful. Lifetime banning orders have to be issued to send the correct message.
First half was a non event Dale not landing a blow and lucky not to be 0-1 down at half time.
Improved second half but poor decision making by the team and an inability to see out a game raising its head for the umpteenth time this season. Two really poor goals to concede and why the keeper is not punching that cross clear 90+4 is a mystery.
The header blazed over at 2-1 was as poor as the missed penalty. The stuttering 2 yard run up to make it 5-5 never filling me with any confidence.
Can the players recover from that as there is one more shot left of glory this season? sadly not if the tactics and body language carry on from yesterday.
This can work one of two ways, maybe we will see a reaction from the players on Tuesday but more importantly at home in front of 2000 on Saturday v Eastleigh.
What a missed opportunity by the club off the pitch and the players on it.
I have to agree about the missed header and the stuttering penalty run up - even if he wasn't injured I fear there's something of a 'showpony' attitude; we certainly missed TAR on the right ahead of Gordon.
I left the ground more in a mood of "resignation" than feeling gutted or despondent
The reason being, once their late equaliser went in, there was an air of inevitability about the penalties outcome and i'd already processed the initial disappointment (takes years of practice watching Dale to do that)
Another reason being the sense throughout the game of us not giving it our best shot, as was massively hoped (and posted about) beforehand
I won't watch the interview, but there's also a sense he could end up more than a bit broken by the time the ref blows full-time on this season
Resignation is exactly how I felt, the gutted bit comes later at home when the cat is wearing a tin hat. Again,it's down to years and years of watching our shower do exactly what they did......after the equaliser the momentum was well and truly with the Moors, you could tell what was coming and our lot were in droop mode and Moors duly delivered the fatal blow.
Regarding the post match interview, Runcorn's Finest did look a broken man, perhaps realising that the one great chance to embellish his CV had slipped between his fingers. At least the i/v was short. The thing is though, you and I will be back again at San Spotty hopefully for several seasons more to watch further episodes of this dross and endure it, it's what we nad many Dale fans do, stick with it.
McNullty and his cohorts will be long gone to pastures new to inspire/ upset plenty of other unsuspecting fans of his playing style.

I think its only natural that if you equalise in the 95th minute you are going to be the team going into penalties on a massive high. Lets face it they were dead and buried, they'd not had an attempt on our goal since the 50th minute goal. I think the only chance we had was if our keeper had an amazing penalty shoot out and unfortunately he didn't look like saving any of theirs.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

You’ll only slate the next incumbent. It’s kind of what you do.

Shame people choose to use the vote option rather than having the balls to challenge those who call their constantly fellow negative chums out. There’s no doubt in my mind that yesterday absolutely delighted you, Roding.

Chomp.
The voting buttons are there for one to signal their agreement or otherwise to a message, if you want to make it personal, it’s not a problem. You’d start an argument in a phone box.
Do you actually have anything interesting to say about the game yesterday? or I take it you prefer to Police this messageboard for people you disagree with. You are definitely the kinda guys who knows everything, you must know why we are so down as a fan base, give us some insight, you know everything.
Why not have the balls to say what you actually think after a game, how the stewarding was yesterday? Cmon say something interesting, that adds to the debate.

Oh you wanted a ‘bite’ did you? How very grown up.
Stewarding didn’t affect me yesterday so can’t comment on something that had no bearing on my day. Wasn’t happy with the result but that’s life. I’ve never been one for dissecting games as I leave it to people more knowledgable than me. Interesting that you use the “you know everything” line. Your fellow bed wetter barrowdale used that one too on me and he’s another that thrives on negativity. Does it not drain you mentally being so down on everything?
Ironic that you choose to accuse others of being personal when you did that yourself just last night. That was disgraceful in all honestly.
I’ve got bigger balls than you’ll ever possess, flower.

Spennymoor had a player (Beals) who was booked in 2 earlier rounds but wasn't suspended for their next game at Hampton and Richmond. Maybe Adebeyo Rowling was injured.

It says the cut-off point is the quarter final, so there's either a mistake in one of Beals' recorded yellow cards or he didn't play at H&R or they fielded an ineligible player.
Or all three!!
EDIT TO THE ABOVE
Apparently, because Spennymoor started in an earlier round, it is four yellow cards before a suspension, but only two yellow cards for those who joined at round three like us. It doesn't seem fair for one extra game, but that's what it is.

I might just do that as well.......my call. I was and still am a HUGE fan of Keith Hill btw, does that meet with your appoval?. Most other recent managers can........off.
