England 🏴 v 🇦🇱 Albania Match Thread on 23:37 - Mar 21 by Padulas_Shampoo | Are you aware Rashford plays for Villa now? And that he’s been pretty excellent since joining? And that Brighton are in fact above Villa in the table? |
Yes of course He hasnt started a single game and had no more than twenty minutes in games he has come on and only a few cameos all done too. He has a Man Utd pedigree and that was what he was picked on Half a dozen sub appearances when his form has been shocking for a couple of seasons and so many more deserving cases to be picked ahead of him though. England 🏴 v 🇦🇱 Albania Match Thread on 21:20 - Mar 21 by Hunterhoop | Boo. No Eze. Foden was very poor. Rashford poor. Not really sure why Eze is in the squad if he’s not one of Rashford, Foden or Jones’ back ups. Hard luck if he sees him as Bellingham’s back up. |
I think that’s the big problem for Eze because by far his best position would be as a 10 behind the striker and the queue of talent there vying for a place is enormous. You’ve got Bellingham in possession, who’s always going to be first choice if he’s fit. And then along with Eze you’ve got Foden ( because he’s rubbish on the wing), Palmer,Gibbs-White and Rogers all pushing for selection.

Gibbs-White has been outstanding for Florist and needs blooding in. Henderson has been a very good player, but surely is past it now; particularly given there is someone there ready to play that position. The 'problem' , for me, is with TT having a relatively short contract and just wanting to win the WC is he'll take the very shirt term view. If he does win it, then he's a genius..... many more games like last night and ultimately failure and there will be a different view of his reign

Yeah, I fell asleep around the 60th minute. Qualifiers are so boring now there are so many groups, so many qualifiers to the finals, and so many teams aiming to qualify through play offs etc and whose sole intent against the ranking team is to keep the score down. I fully get it from their point of view, but it makes it boring for the ranking team.

Our group for 2026 is as easy as it gets. Remember 1994 when we had Netherlands, Poland and an excellent Norway. 98 we had Italy and Poland and 2002 Greece and Germany. Used to be on a knife edge until.the final round of fixtures.

With Europe being split into more countries and the ever-expanding number of teams in the World Cup itself it would take a mighty balls up to not qualify. One of my earliest football memories is the 0-0 in Italy with Ian Wright hitting the post. Think we just have to let Tuchel get on with it. He has to have some experience in there even if it means picking players not in great form and if he goes entirely on form with the Forest players etc. then you’re changing the team every game. I don’t particularly rate the bloke but he can’t be judged until our quarter-final defeat to France next summer. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He’s started 4 games of their last 7 and got 4 assists in his last 6 games so your stats are completely fictional. He’s been very good for Villa. He wasn’t getting picked when he was at Man Utd so I’m not sure how his ‘Man Utd pedigree’ has anything to do with his selection for these games.

Harry Kane seems to want to play there too (and he's not bad to be fair).

He has only had one Premier league start for Villa and not scored a goal for them yet. Has Mr Rashford got some dirt on you Padula ?? As I said there are many more players currently i would have chosen over Marcus. And am sure i would not be in the minority with that viewpoint. I don't really care though tbf but be interested by how you view Henderson being picked again at 35 years old.

I suspect Harry will throw in the towel after the next World Cup so that would be a massive loss for England. Eze is going to have to be patient because while he is an excellent playmaker Palmer while healthy will always be picked ahead of him. Foden went from POY last year to very average this year with City and England and Grealish has wasted 2 years of his career at City IMO It all comes down to the Group draws at the WC and who can handle the opressive summer heat and humidity of Mexico and USA not sure how hot Canada gets

Oh so you’ve gone from saying he hasn’t started a single game to saying he’s only started one PL game, ignoring the other three he’s started? Ok. I mean it’s misleading but at least it’s accurate. As for my thoughts on a 35 year old Henderson being picked…. Well my initial thought is he’s 34 not 35. More arbitrary, inaccurate guess work!

And that can work if the other team are pressing high and leaving gaps so that he can play through balls over the top the way he was doing for Son at Tottenham, when Son still had a lot of pace. But do we really want our nominal striker to be playing in midfield for much of the game? I’m not sure it’s something that Tuchel will want but we’ll only get a better idea when we play decent opposition. Serbia might give us a bit of a test.

With Saka and Palmer fit and Nwaneri waiting in the wings to break through, Foden would struggle to get off the bench on the right or in the 10 by the world cup! I've said it before though, you take Foden out of the uber-regimented City side and ask him to play with freedom and he struggles. He's so used to knowing exactly where everyone is and where he should be all the time. He struggles playing a different way. As much as I really hate to say it, Cole Palmer leaving them for those lot down the road was the best thing that could have happened for England.

Kane will go on as long as he can, he wants to the 100 goals and he's quite capable of playing until the 2028 euros at least, with all the advancements in fitness no reason he can't play until his very late 30's
