He hit one six over mid off with what seemed like nothing more than a check drive. Shame these two and Wood and Mahmood (and Turner and Green) aren’t there for Lancs tomorrow, England’s gain is Lancs loss.

Looked a forlorn hope with these guys missing unfortunately

Also, confused thinking in sending out Balderson ahead of Hartley, then having Balderson retire out to make way for him. Naturally, Hartley goes first ball... Good, at least, to see Jimmy Anderson getting a big cheer from a decent crowd for his 1no

There seemed to be a bit of an improvement after he got appointed and was a dodgy lbw decision away from a possible T20 final. He has a big job on his hands with Williams leaving, Bailey on the downside of his career and young players not really kicking on. Harris should be the mainstay at 4 but a better overseas seamer than Phillip is needed. Hopefully he can help some of the youngsters to improve.

The cricket seemed to improve under Jimmy's captaincy too. Don't know if he's set to continue in that role next season?

Harris took ov er from Jennings as red ball captain and I suspect will stick with it as he (fitness permitting) will play every game. Anderson has agreed a deal for next season, but is unlikely to feature in every red ball game.
| CRICKET on 19:59 - Oct 23 with 788 views | pioneer | Meanwhile the Ashes ‘preparation’ struggles to keep its head above water in NZ. All predictable given the unusually early start to the international season in NZ. Compare this year to the 2010-11 ashes campaign were everything was organised around bringing home the urn, including two four day games against strong aussie competition. With four weeks to go to the first test We look to be going into this campaign very much under done and hoping that injuries will upset the convicts fast bowling stocks. Never been a problem for them before…they just call up another gem from the sheffield shield ranks. And their batsmen getting plenty of four day cricket competitive cricket in the lead up. I suppose everything is unconventional under the current régime. We will soon find out if it works for an overseas ashes. | | | |

Couldn't agree more. A meaningless white ball series against NZ just ahead of what should be our most important series once every 4 years doesn't make sense. 1 warm up against England A just before the 1st test and then meaningless game between tests 1 & 2 against a prime minister XI doesn't cut it. Aussies playing themselves into form in the Sheffield shield bodes well for them injuries or not. However I am optimistic it won't be 5-0 but let's see !! Need to be getting 400 or so in first innings to be competitive which means we can't just rely on Root + 1 or 2 others. Edit: also need our own bowlers to be injury free too, as well as in form [Post edited 24 Oct 17:15]
