Has he taken this squad as far as he can? Whether we sink or not, I guess he'll be weighing up his options, and no doubt the club will be too. [Post edited 5 Apr 17:53]

Marti post-Cardiff on 16:57 - Apr 6 by Ned_Kennedys | I know the groupthink on here is that Cifuentes is wonderful and he’s not to blame for hardly anything but he’s been average at best this season after doing so well last season. Terrible start to the season especially at home and now a terrible end to the season especially away. Assuming we don’t somehow get relegated next month then I’d say the chances of him being here next season is high as it’s very unlikely any ‘better’ teams are going to pay a release fee to employ him. Doubt he’d resign and doubt we’d sack him either unless we go down. |
At the risk of triggering you, the decision on ‘better’ clubs is going to include numerous factors, not just league position. Cifuentes, like all football managers has a level of arrogance/confidence that he can improve a squad if they’re playing his system and he has options that can play that way.
Marti post-Cardiff on 12:18 - Apr 7 with 2141 views | richpr | I hope he can turn it around in a season riddled with injuries. In some ways, he's done a decent job to get us to where we are but there are some things I find irritating... Every throw in in near the penalty box is given to Smyth to put in a weak long throw to Dunne. Worked for a while but not anymore. Please try something new! Same with goal kicks out to Dunne on the touchline. Yawn! Free kicks and corners are all the same. Let's try something different. All our play goes down the wing - zero down the middle. I can't recall getting so few free kicks around the box - even then we show no ingenuity when we do get one - we just aim at Dunne in the box. There is more to just playing a pressing game - high time we came up with some new ideas. Other teams have cottoned on to what we do. It is also getting very boring. Hopefully MC can change things but if not, get someone new in. How did Hull let Liam Rosenoir go? The best attacking team I saw in the Championship last year IMO

Haha you don’t ‘trigger’ me. You keep posting your dodgy ‘inside knowledge’ and people will challenge and respond however they wish to. You rarely back anything up anyhow.

But at the same time he loves to demand others (me especially) play the role of manager etc., as if one can't critique anything/anyone unless one can do the job oneself. Tedious timewaster and wind-up merchant.

Pushing for the play offs? There was zero chance of that happening with the ‘strikers’ we started the season with…. This season was always going to be a relegation fight. Again. Cifuentes will have performed a miracle if he keeps this utterly shit squad in the Championship.

Marti post-Cardiff on 12:56 - Apr 8 with 1505 views | sparkey | People looking at the shower of sh*t squad we have and what Marti has to field... and putting the blame on Marti is mind boggling. Even Pep couldnt polish this turd. He singlehandedly saved us last season, and imo he's saved us this season as this squad (especially with injuries) shouldn't be anywhere above 22nd in the league.

Marti post-Cardiff on 18:06 - Apr 5 by stainrods_elbow | But it's been like this, or worse, for all bar, what?, a purple patch of 10 games or so when we punched above our weight. We've mostly been sub-par regardless of injuries. |
We were sub-par at the start of the season but we had injuries to Chair and Frey meaning players were chucked in the deep end like Celar despite the transfer strategy of brining in players from abroad meaning that they would probably benefit from a slower bedding in. We had so many CB's injured at one point we had Santos at RB to release Dunne then Field in CB Saito and Ashby as LB! We started to improve in late November when Celar in particular started to bed in and players returned from injury, so I think it's fair to say injuries have been a big part of this season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Well before this season started I think a fair number of people were looking at Celar as our newly acquired striker who if things broke well could easily hit 10-15 goals.

Surely "pragmatic " is what he is doing has massive injury problems not thr best players a damaged team confidence ect he is resorting to pragmatic solutions hence long throw to Dunn playing Anderson who was terrible ( had hopes for him) not loosing to Cardiff was important even though they are a poor side. You have to give a manager like MC a chance. Not a injury plagued season on a small budget. Get through this one and let's see how we go better I think.

He needs to scrap the false number nine plan though, That has to go, even if it's a case of sticking Vaughan from the Devt Squad up there. It cost us 6 points, in my opinion.

Good post how much worse could our second half been if we threw on the kid.It might be the spark that was needed and if he scored the reaction would have been something he would always remember. We simply have to score first to win any games these days I would throw everybody who can score in training on the pitch someone might actually get one

no matter what he does seems hes dead man walking so why would he bother , looking forward to watching kolli look at the ref after hes fallen over for the tenth time with nobody near him and then limping off as his hamstring is a bit sore again ten mins later.

Marti post-Cardiff on 10:22 - Apr 9 with 617 views | derbyhoop | The combination of a tiny budget, comparatively, and a horrific injury list would hamper any manager. I'm just hoping that we get the 1 win we will need and do enough to stay up. I want to see Marti stay for stability. I think there are some bright sparks on the horizon. Morrison, Morgan, Saito, Kolli and Lloyd have all come on. There seems to be some decent prospects in the DS, particularly Sutton , Dillon and Tuck. The worry is the number of senior players out of contract. I don't want us to do another European supermarket sweep, where 1 in 3 work out.

After paying off his contract and that of his staff and then having to recruit another manager/first team coach plus all his team we'd still be in the same position with a bunch of injured players we probably can't offload. I know the fanbase is split on Marti but I really don't see how sacking him is going to make anything better. We'd just have more financial costs to layout. We've seen what the team can do when fully fit and firing on all cylinders so it feels to me injuries are really a big part of this season. And yes, I know we're meant to have fitness coaches etc but are they actually causing the injuries?
Marti post-Cardiff on 08:07 - Apr 10 with 354 views | Gloucs_R | I don't want Marti to go. He was so emotional after the game last night, when he went to the fans. That's exactly the type of manager I want. One who cares. The players clearly respect him. The football has been good, overall. But we're a bottom half football club in the championship and that's probably punching above our weight!! Nourry got the big spends wrong in the summer. The balance of the squad is lopsided. So unless we address the fundamentals, any manager is going to struggle. We're not going to get a better manager. I know his in game management could be better but again, I really like Marti. If the club decide to move him on, I would be really hacked off. We're 15th, that's a decent return considering the challenges we've had this season. [Post edited 10 Apr 11:19]
