From a Liverpool Message Board….. 06:46 - Oct 30 with 8837 viewsthehat

Saw this on a Liverpool Messaage Board ( Don’t ask) Made me laugh as it reminded me of articles on here over the years. So I guess shit happens at all clubs even bloody Liverpool……….Imagine them supporting a club like QPR

What is Arne Slot getting wrong? Allow me. Where to even start.

Firstly, we’re too easy to set up against and that’s on Slot’s tactical setup. His system invites teams to sit deep in low-blocks, absorb our slow, predictable possession play, and break into acres when we lose the ball. He knows it — he’s even admitted it and broadcasted it to everyone in interviews — but he hasn’t changed anything about it.

Then the tempo is all wrong. This is a manager who talks about control, but it’s killing us. His idea of “controlled possession” has drained all spark out of our play. There’s no punch, no gear change — just half-arsed tippy-tappy patterns that get broken up or ultimately go nowhere anymore.

Set pieces are a disaster zone — and that reflects coaching. We’ve only scored once from a dead ball in the league all season. Meanwhile, we can’t defend them either. That’s a preparation problem. And it’s costing us goals every single game.

His team selections don’t build chemistry. He’s chopping and changing, but nothing’s working. The front three doesn’t link. The midfield lacks bite. It’s like he’s guessing combinations rather than building understanding.

Like Nikky says, he’s not handling players well. Kerkez looks broken — played out of position, misused, and overexposed. There’s no excuse for this because Robbo’s come in and done well every time we needed him. Szoboszlai, our in-form central midfielder, is in and out of the right-back position. Gravenberch — our only recognisable DM when fit — has either been dropped into centre-back or given license to roam forward. When he uses Curtis, he often leaves only Wirtz sitting alongside him late on in games, but this combination doesn’t work — Wirtz needs to play further forward and isn’t a sitting midfielder.

As a result of the tactical shape Slot plays when we start games — and the mismanagement of how players are redeployed within games — we always lack numbers in midfield and fail to shield the back four. The attack are also too far ahead of the midfield, waiting for a magic pass or piece of build-up play that never comes.

Confidence is eroding because roles make no sense. There’s no conviction, passion or physical edge anymore. That intensity we were known for? Gone. And that comes down to Slot’s philosophy. As well as demotivating the players by not using them properly, he’s prioritised positional shape over pressing fire — and it’s left us passive, second to everything, lacking fight, and mentally soft. We’re not dropping under-performers, or rewarding players like Chiesa with starts in the side based on merit, which doesn’t incentivise the starting XI to compete for their spots.

Worst of all, there’s no sign at the moment that Slot is learning from this, or equipped to deal with it. He isn’t reacting properly between games or adapting the shape tactically to correct these problems — and now he’s too slow to react even within games when we’re under fire. There’s no flexibility in how we set up, so we start every match on the back foot. We go behind, we drift. Teams go ahead and sit deep — and we play straight into it. Then, for about 20–30 minutes in the second half, we suddenly look dangerous — not because of anything planned, but because the right players, in the right positions, happen to be on the pitch at the same time, for a brief period. That’s when we rely on a bit of individual magic to get us out of jail.

For all the talk of modern ideas, we look rigid and reactive. That’s on the manager.

Some of us are trying to be patient. But Slot needs to wake up. This is the Premier League — not a Dutch coaching seminar. If he doesn’t take responsibility and adapt fast — really fast — the entire fanbase will turn, and so will the FSG board.

At least half the fanbase is already there actually. There’s no more credit in the bank. Slot needs a decent run of wins immediately, playing in a recognisable, repeatable way.

At this point, I’m not holding my breath.

Rant over. 🔴

What a load of shîte. I cannot remember one other incident in the eighties (excuse Hillsborough), where 39 opposition supporters were killed by the despicable behaviour of a few hundred boozed up scousers. Which had the effect of English clubs being banned from Europe for six years. They want us all to remember the victims at Hillsborough but cannot remember once they holding a minutes silence or building a memorial for these poor supporters. Their supporters are so entitled beyond belief. Hope Villa stuff them on Saturday, Madrid muller them next week and then Citeh feast on the remains the tolling weekend. Hopefully that’ll see the back of Arno Slit and with a bit of luck the return of Brendan Rodgers!

Well, you've sort of proven my point.

The inquest doesn't say Liverpool fans killed 39 supporters. It says fans charging was a factor alongside a dilapidated stadium and shite policing.

I've heard QPR fans boasting about charging fans at Stamford Bridge etc. It happened all over Europe.

"surely any Leicester fan that lived through their premiership winning season can't want for anything more?"

Indeed. As someone who was 11 when we came the closest to being the champions of England that we'll ever be, I'd be like a pig in shite just winning the FA Cup.

I was 15 when QPR shoulda won the league and decades of up and downs since have lowered my expectations.

Would be happy with 1) cup run of any kind, 2) playoff push, 3) 10 goal plus striker, c'mon Kone.

Not exactly 'pig in shite' territory.

Not at all. I’ve watched football in the eighties in some right dumps and didn’t kill a single person. All down to the behaviour of the scouse fans.

'All down to the behaviour of scouse fans'

Like I say, that's not what the inquest says.

History also tells us that inquests are not always providers of the truth. The basic fact is that had the fans not charged into the Italian section, there would have been no crush, no wall collapse and no deaths that day. Granted there were other factors involved but none would have come into play had the charge not happened.

Returning to the O.P. and to be fair, it is actually very well written. And not one sign of an 'Aright', 'Calm down', 'You big melt'.

I think the reference to our own SE is very inaccurate. I always find his work to be much more convoluted and essentially incomprehensible.

There is a plaque honouring those who died at Hysel in the main stand at Anfield .
I’ve seen some brutal violence back in the eighties at football matches.
I’m not trying to defend the Liverpool fans but all clubs had terrible hooligans back in the day .
You are spot on about entitlement. They are top notch in that department.

It's unlikely a Belgian judge would jump to criticise their own police force and national stadium unduly.

I'm not letting Liverpool fans off the hook, I'm just saying that it could have been anyone and successive governments and media have taken political advantage which is why we get a lot of the scouse bashing and the Hillsborough scandal.

That's all diversion. Their actions were the initial cause of this particular disaster. That's all I was saying.

I'd be quite pleased to get into the 4th Round.

My hatred of Chelsea is all-encompassing but I maintain that Liverpool have the least likeable fans. I root for their downfall constantly.

Is this Liverpool message board poster their equivalent of StainedPants Elbow that we have here?? Clearly an expert on all things managerial

Be fair, the guy who posted that coached his local U-11 Girls team to a very respectable 4th place finish in the Huyton & District Sunday Morning League last season, so he knows his stuff.

And if he doesn't manage top three this season, he won't have to be sacked, he'll do the honourable thing and walk.

I quite like the gogglebox summarising the best bits of tv I don’t have the time to watch.

A version for fans networks could have appeal if anyone has the time to pick out the nuggets.

Norf - please add this to the new concept ideas long list of the niche but nice 👍

I lived in Manchester for about six years, five of which I worked over in Liverpool.

When either are winning, they develop the notion that they have a divine right not to lose. When they are losing/not doing well, they then believe they have a divine right to win. The sense of entitlement among many, but certainly not all, is often staggering to behold!

Either way, I developed a firm approach of saying....fck 'em!

You indeed have to laugh. I've always assumed if we won the league we'd all be happy forever, but it seems this is not the case and moaning is quick to restart the following season if things don't continue to go well.

I suppose at clubs with big expectations it will be like this, but surely any Leicester fan that lived through their premiership winning season can't want for anything more?

If we hadn't managed to feck up our only ever chance of winning the top prize in English football in 76...I would still be dining out on it now all these years later. Oh and like Bluce...I hate Liverpool so much.
