| Asterisks* 09:01 - Nov 26 with 2476 views | TwoHalves | Having had cause to deploy an ‘asterisk’ in a frivolous post on another thread, it has nevertheless occurred to me that there could be some mileage in a new one devoted solely to the usage of that symbol. It’s a funny word, in my opinion, more so when repeated over and over again, but how often do we use it? When creating a password, maybe, or as a means of disguising a rude or offensive word (C*****a springs immediately to mind). I once saw a poster, for example, advertising a performance in the East End by popular cockney duo Chas and Dave. There was, however, an asterisk immediately after Dave’s name which, on closer inspection of the small print at the bottom, said ‘Not the real Dave’. Anyone else got an asterisk-related story? * I’m aware that this thread may well be going absolutely nowhere! | | | | |

Damn! Outed by The Chef. Thought I’d got away with it. I’ve toyed with a couple of excuses, like claiming that I must have accidentally deleted my inaugural post, or that I’m allergic to the stuff, but I now realise there’s no place to hide. So I must now reveal to the world that I am, and always have been, a devout worshipper of Co-op ‘irresistible’ 6-month matured Somerset Cheddar. Not particularly sophisticated, I’ll grant you, but a step up from my childhood favourite of Dairylea Cheese Spread Triangles. What a relief to get that off my chest.

But nobody ever gives Obelisk the credit he deserves for doing all the heavy lifting to enhance the legend. While the Asterisk is granted immortality by being included on your standard keyboard, where's the Obelus eh? ( The Obelus is the mathematical dividing sign by the way, with two dots above and below a horizontal line). It's clear and obvious discrimination. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No Obelus thread yet? Something should be done.

Am I right in thinking that Brighton was the location for the Annual Ampersand Conference, jonath? Or am I hallucinating again? [Post edited 27 Nov 9:17]
