Taking son to his first QPR game (Coventry) - really don't know London that well so any recommendations on which airport is closest and easiest to get to loftus road and any hotels you would recommend.
Thinking arrive early the day of the match and hopefully get a stadium tour in.
Stay over and do some sight seeing on the Sunday.

Well, Heathrow is the closest and you can get to the ground via the Underground with just one change at Hammersmith (you have to come out of the station, cross the road and then go onto the 'Hammersmith & City' line) but I guess it also depends on where your local carrier flys to. Either way, public transportation to the ground is available from all airports around London but the further away (i.e. Gatwick and Stanstead) will take longer.

Apologies if I’m telling you anything you know already, but don’t bring anything bigger than a rucksack to the ground, there’s no storage and it’s not famous for legroom. As has been pointed out, it depends on the airport you’re flying from, you’d be better staying closest to where you leave the train rather than dragging it across just to be near the ground. So, Paddington or Hammersmith for Heathrow, Kings Cross for Luton, Victoria for Gatwick or Liverpool Street for Stansted (though it’s pretty dead at around there at the weekend). You can get to Loftus Road in less than 45 minutes from all those areas, much less for Paddington and Hammersmith.
There are thousands of independent hotels but if you want a low risk, relatively new place with twin en-suite rooms for you and your son to share, the biggest local chains are Premier Inn and Travelodge, all over London, as well as global chains like Ibis, Hilton, etc. |  | | |

I dont know budget hotels in the area but Heathrow is the nearest airport, but its so easy to get into central London you've got literally hundreds to choose from.
Can't beat Travelodge / Premier Inn for basic know what you're getting hotels. |  | | |

Heard good things about The Brook Green Hotel on Shepherds Bush Road. 10-15 minute walk to the ground. Close to Hammersmith Underground station for quick trains into central London sightseeing/shopping etc. c.£100 a night for a room if you book early enough i think. |  |

Gatwick is also super easy for Shepherds Bush. Half an hour into Clapham then a short train from there.
If you want something as cheap as possible I’ve used the Comfotel GRN hotel before when we’ve had a night game and I’m in London early the next day. Glamorous it is not but dirt cheap, clean and a short walk from the ground. Close to the tube too. | | | |

I always stay at the Premier Inn Heathrow T 4. You can walk undercover from the hotel to either the Tube or the Elizabeth line

Took my son last year, stayed at the Premier Inn on Talgarth Rd in Hammersmith. New hotel, clean and quiet and an easy walk to the tube and bus station. But, yes literally 1000's of hotels to choose from. I suggest booking the stadium tour in advance. I had trouble getting 2 tickets but the staff in the box office were super helpful. |  | | |

If you want a hotel room around Heathrow then I’d suggest you arrive by dinghy.
Avoid or google choices around there to make sure they are still 100% “tourist” hotels.
Locally I’d recommend the Best Western opposite Northfields Station on the Piccadilly line so convenient for Heathrow and also not far from W12 (about £16 in an uber if you’re a lazy fcukr like me or head in via Hammersmith or Ealing Broadway)
I’d also consider the hotels noted near the Bush but can’t personally recommend

No need to pay Heathrow Express price. Just get the Elizabeth line to Paddington, which takes about 30 minutes (instead of 15 minutes) and will save you around £12 per person. There are always lots of Heathrow Express ticket sellers around the airport trying to flog overpriced tickets. Just go to the machines and buy a normal train ticket. |  |
