| Old Geezers' Bus Pass 21:12 - Jan 14 with 660 views | colinallcars | Much talk about reforming it. I only use mine for pub crawls ( I never drive if I've had say, 7 or 8 pints.)These passes are a boost to daytime economy. Just heard Labour councils are against reform, so looks like they'll stay. What thinkest thou ? | | | | |

You’re lucky to get it at 60.The rest of us have wait for retirement age to get it.And you get free tube travel if you live in London.
| Old Geezers' Bus Pass on 22:18 - Jan 14 with 388 views | TwoHalves | Since retiring from the cab trade two years ago I use mine all the time and haven’t felt the slightest need to own a private vehicle, with all the associated aggravation, since. Gets me out and about spending money and seeing London from a completely different perspective. What’s not to like? If we’re serious about getting people out of cars this sort of thing should be encouraged more. In an ideal world public transport would be free (although funding this is obviously another question) and there’s clearly an argument to be had about including younger people. I think the appeal for me is more to do with the ease with which you can get around, rather than the fact that it’s free, without having to own a goddamn smartphone. | | | |

I'm not after a money free life nor Is the Missus but I started work on a building site at the age of 16 and finished working at the age of 68 some 52 Years later, no big deal I know but I've done my time and paid my Income tax and NI as has my Missus so we'll take our free bus pass and my free prescription medication and my NHS operations. Anybody wants to take our free bus passes away gets my pick axe handle right onto the top of their bastard heads. Leave us alone.

Folk like you have earned it and deserve it. I have no qualms about paying taxes to ensure you continue to enjoy it. The problem is there are many who didn't earn it but are entitled just the same.

For goodness sake, Ted, stop sitting on the fence . As I now live in Edinburgh - make of that what you will - I am fortunate enough to have a free bus pass even though I'm "just" 61. Even better, the bus service here is phenomenal plus the bus pass can be used on the tram. PS: A relative who is in her late 80s and who also lives in Edinburgh steadfastly refuses to have a bus pass because she thinks it would betray her age. Sadly, her face and physical state rather give the game away, but then she is full of quirks, like insisting on driving all the way to Yorkshire to get her Christmas roast even though her daughter in law has pointed out that exactly the same bird is available in her local Tesco .
