Player Sales 12:48 - Jan 21 with 2907 viewsEuroRanger

Saw Hunter's last post in the match thread and wondered who people expect to leave / would be OK with leaving? I imagine Varane will leave in the summer and would be surprised if we don't have people sniffing around Burrell, especially if he comes back and carries on scoring. I also think anyone paying attention would be taking a hard look at Madsen given his performances this season. I'd be happy with ~£6m for Varane, £7-10m for Madsen (though I don't know if someone would pay that) and I'd rather not sell Burrell (though I guess everyone has a price).

PS. This is not an excuse to slag players who aren't performing right now.

Dave Thomas was my moment, Ted.

Not to get all 'Wonder Years' about it but in that moment, little Brian knew that the world would never be the same again.

I had a moment like that at school.

One of Dave Clements sons was training to be a PE teacher, and our teacher bought him in for some work experience.
Pre-Internet, so I'm not sure our teacher understood Dave's story that well, but he knew I was a big QPR fan, so wanted me to talk to his son all about Dave's career.

I must have been about 13, I'm not even sure I could talk to his son about it now.

He really is. The only player who really sees a pass (Chair aside) and can execute it quickly.

Also does a deceptive amount of defensive work these days too.

Not sure I'd ever describe Chair as being able to pass quickly!
He has got great vision, but more often than not he would slow the game down. It was only since Burrell arrived that we were able to go long over the top with someone to run those channels

I'd say Kolli, Dunne and Burrell will attract interest before the start of next season.

I think Varane needs to go anyway, as there seem to be lots of stories about him leaving, which is probably not great for team spirit.
Although I guess the club like it, as it lets everyone know we have an asset to sell?

Maybe this is how those stories get into the public domain, what do i know?

Can't imagine that Dunne is going anywhere. Turns 29 early next season and just signed a long contract here. A team would have to REALLY want him, and given Cook is unlikely to be here that would leave us with only Edwards and Morrison (and the ghost of JCS) as senior CBs so we'd have to find a replacement of our own.

No I said both could see a pass but Madsen could see it quickly. But maybe that wasn’t clearly expressed.

Surely with RDN unable to play 3 game weeks and Esquerdinha out injured, Field must be retained until the summer? I don't think there's anyone else who can do a job at LB.

I hope it doesn't force us into buying RND if this three game week isn't solvable.
We just don't have the depth in that position to carry passengers atm.

I guess the question is, if Field wants to go, then depending on how long is left on his new contract this might be the only time the club gets something.

So, it might be sell him now, or he leaves for free next year, we just don't know anymore!

If the club have an offer for Varane with money rather than a loan and we might buy him in the summer if we go up then Varane will be sold. I just think if anyone comes in with 1-2 million for Field they'll take that, not as if he is playing at the moment.

One thing on Field which some may not know, his appearance last night took him to 188 Apps in the Championship/Division Two in old money. Only Tony Hazell (202) and Ilias Chair (256) have played more games at this level in our history. he moved above Dave Clement (187) last night.

Jimmy Dunne is not far behind on 178, he'll go level with Ian Gillard the next time he plays.

Two lynchpins you can build the side around, captain and a former captain, who know the club, who are committed to it for another 3 seasons after this one… build around them, don’t sell. It is almost certain we will have at least one, possibly more two head coaches over the next 3.5 seasons, so don’t make decisions based on the current guy’s opinions on such players. If Varane sold, play Field.

True the St Etienne deal as reported is a joke, we need money on the table, I still think Varane is picked ahead of Field because we believe (Nourry) that there's more value in a 24 year old and it's very difficult to get a good sale if the player is on the bench, I still rate Field as good as Varane they are both limited in seeing a forward pass but Sam for me has the edge defensively.

I like Sam and he's done well for us but I don't think he's good enough technically for how we're looking to play. I don't think Varane has kicked on this season but he's far better on the ball than Sam, even if his passes tend to be backwards. Of course, as mentioned elsewhere, for a side that aspires to play a possession-based style, we're not doing very well at the moment!

I do think we'll sell him, partly because I doubt he's the type who would be happy sitting on the bench most weeks.

Players that the club would want to move on:

Frey and Nardi are looking like they are surplus/coming to the end of their contracts and therefore will move on for little compensation.

Players the club could be tempted to book a profit on:

Home-grown players such as Murphy Cooper, Alfie Lloyd, Kolli, Chair(!), Field(?) are all potentially sellable and profit can be booked as they hold minimal cost in the accounts?

Players that want to move on:

Varane? Hevertton Santos?

Players that other clubs might want to make us an offer for that we might not refuse:

Burrell. Madsen.

Well if the club does that then they Nourry has totally lost the plot, the idea is buy players, develop and sell, making sure you have cover for them.

It's Varane who needs to be sold hes at an age where he will command a decent transfer fee, we have cover in Field and Hayden, I personally don't see a better player than Field in Varane they both do the same job.

We are supposed to sell players at the right time, not hold on until it's too late, let Varane go we have cover.....

What if the player wants to leave though? I can't imagine Sam is a Winston Bogarde, happy to sit on the bench every week. Even when Varane is injured, he can see that Hayden is ahead of him in the reckoning and that the manager doesn't really rate him.

Frey's contract runs until 2027.

Chair is 29 this year and, with his injury record, I doubt another club would want to pay money for him.

I think we owe it to Sam Field to allow him to leave unless he is going to play in at least 50% of the remaining matches.

If youth players have no part at the club if they don't make the development squad at 18 & we release them for their own good, the same consideration should be given to first team squad members who don't make the starting team.

I'm not sure if we have to sell this month but if we do Field and Nardi seem the obvious ones

I’d be a bit surprised if Nardi was willing to move in January as he can secure a nice signing on fee back home in the summer.

Well, bearing in mind that a oiseau in the hand is worth two in Shepherds Bush, should there be interested parties, then everything is negotiable. Everything.
