Cricket 2026 County/International Thread 10:53 - Jan 31 with 84981 viewsSuperhoops2808

https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/

I've started a new thread for the 2026 season, and I've started it now because the T20 World Cup starts a week today. (And in fact 2 months and we will be chatting county cricket red ball)

In a group with Italy, Nepal and Scotland and a pretty solid squad I expect that we will progress beyond the group stage. After that who knows and will depend on fitness. Curran and Salt played very well in the first game warm up game v Sri Lanka but tougher tests are ahead. Anyway, here is the squad for England (albeit still provisional).

Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood.

Be relying on Archer to stay fit (as per usual) - But hope that Brook finally stands up as captain, and Banton and Jacks perfom like we know they can at county level. If all that clicks should be a good watch.

I was gutted not to make it to Trent Bridge (although at 71 for 5 I wasn't feeling so bad about it).

TRJ still doing the business aged 38 - I can't believe it's ten years since we last won the Championship.

Disgraceful scenes at Japan v India - admittedly a 5 over farce but Japan were only chasing 30! Down to the wire in the last over, umpire gave a wide, India protested to square leg umpire saying batter had changed their stance before release (he hadn't) - and the umpires overturned the wide! Never seen that before. Total bullying. India won, of course.

Middlesex looking to do Kent a favour clearly...

Although I think you should be fine playing the bottom of the table team at home.

Good bowling performance but lost 2 early doors. Dig in Middlesex. Do it for King, country and your lovely neighbours, Kent.

Yes the old adage about not judging a pitch till both teams have batted on it.

Northants also bowling well.

I thought exactly the same before we played Preston at the weekend. Can you imagine supporting QPR and Kent!?!

Quite; hardly been a feast of trophies all round. Or wins.

Nice to see that Middlesex partnership....

Middlesex as we know bat deep so hopefully will get a nice lead

I would still prefer we win on merit and not rely on other results.

C'mon the Spitfires

P.S - Us members have been ranting about Grant Stewart getting his county cap. Taken way too long. He's been with the club nearly 10 years now. Disgraceful he has waited that long

Congrats to Middlesex

Both their Men AND their Women won their respective One Day cups today

Like buses, no silverware in an age and then 2 come along

One of the great days. Exceptional bowling performance. Atmosphere was great. Scenes at some of the wickets. And had the Roland Jones family directly in the row behind me all game. Their son did them proud, as ever. One of the top county pros of the last 15-20 years.

Hmmm "bat deep" is stretching things! But Ryan Harris is a bona fide Middlesex legend - two tons in a week.

Having been 32 for 4 I will definitely take a 150 run lead.

I think you mean Higgins

My take is that Holden and Higgins are the backbone of that team and as you mentioned Roland-Jones seems to have been there in that team forever

Good to see Kent going about their business quietly and maybe a rarity of a batting point or two. Compton has been pony all season long and finally looks like he is stringing together a decent innings. I remember walking around the St Lawrence with him and he shocked me when he started 'vaping' - I mean is that healthy for a professional sportsman??

Post lunch perhaps Middlesex could grab a few wickets, would be nice

Higgins, Duke, Gogar can all get runs. Pity the 5 above don't get enough big scores. Need some solidity at the top of the order if they are to.make progress in 2027.

Middx need to sign at least one, ideally two, proven batsmen. With Du Plooy going, and no overseas, i’d like the to sign an overseas top 4 batsman, who can play all 4 formats. And then I’d hope they sign another young Geddes type who can’t quite get into the first team of a top division 1 side, wants his chance and has a bit of talent.

Unless someone leaves, we have enough seamers!

We were chatting about that our last home game down at Canterbury. We seem to constantly sign overseas bowlers and never a batsman. Yet we have plenty of bowlers but echoes of QPR we are constantly rotating them

Anyway, hopefully Middlesex will knock off these 133 runs today and we can sit back and enjoy the promotion... That said, its not started well at time of going to press!!

One way of making batting practice more challenging!

I tried something like this when I was padded up and waiting to go in back in the 1990s, except that I stood behind the catching cradle and had teammates chuck a cricket ball at it .

Tom Banton playing a special ODI innings currently.

Blame me, if he is out next ball.

Great innings. Very impressed with Sonny Baker, he's got to be in all the squads for the winter surely.

Congrats to Warks on the County title.

Pleased for Chris Woakes and also Middlesex old boy Ethan Bamber - took the winning wicket and finished as leading Div 1 wicket taker as well.
