Liam Hogan has been immense so far.

Looks like a game of who will see red first. Could have been 1 off each at half time.

Ref struggling to keep control of the York game. Started really with the Boatang incident, but could best be summarised as ‘they don’t like it up em’

Stupid booking though, will have to be careful now in what's a testy but enjoyable game.

York miss a pen, Morecambe down to ten men after the lead up to the award.

Great game.

This will be the Alamo for the remainder of the game, will be a miracle if Morecambe hold out.

Striker ‘won’ the penalty. Dark arts.

Great save and crazy moments after but can’t see Morecambe holding out for this long.

We could do worse than take a look at the Morecambe no.16 as a back up for EEL. Quite magnificent defending.

If the Morecambe players have anything about them they'll get at the York players on yellows. This is another shit referee overall, he's had no control... York should have had another pen after the bizarre one.

That Hogan lad would make a decent backup for EEL

Best thing about this really from our point of view is the longer it goes, the more York can't take off their big players to rest them. Can't see them not winning from here in all honesty.

Hogan going off with four mins to go. Either cramp or an injury after his latest block.

One of the best defensive performances you’re likely to see. Top professional.

Full credit to Bentley too. He’s got a set of players invested into how much he clearly cares for Morecambe and it reflects in their desire.

Inevitable.

They do not ever seem like having that game where they take a knock to their confidence.

Sickener, but there's only so much karma any team can contain

Let's have 'em Dale, by the end of match 46

They'll be fooked by then. Their fans all seem to think it's a banker for them too. Can't wait for the 99th minute Mani D penalty to win it.

Indeed. Without checking, before our recent spate of draws we have always seen out games after taking the lead. Hence little need for a late goal. Compare this to York who have needed later goals to gain points when they were drawing/losing.

What has changed as seen at Yeovil and Halifax has been the inability to retain a lead once we get in front. On both occasions the opposition responded straight after we scored (even though at the Shay it was when we went two up!). Compare this to the win at Forest Green for instance. We dropped off in the second half, looked to hit them on the break and did this very effectively. Smith missed two sitters but we still looked very solid and took the 3 points in a performance that was lauded.

At Halifax we did similar, this time Smith finishes off a chance and we take what looks like an unassailable lead. We don’t look at all solid and concede twice in five minutes. There can be all the talk in the world about tactical choices, many of them valid concerns, but football matches often come down to individuals doing their jobs when it matters. Smith didn’t, the defence did. Smith did, the defence didn’t. Anything else is just noise.

Much like the focus on last minute goals.

Back to the discussion yesterday. York NEEDING a late goal again after a Dale win that followed the season long pattern mentioned.

They score so many late on because they have to. We can only hope that one time they don’t.

Removing the Dale element, felt so sorry for Morecambe and especially Hogan who must have felt helpless knowing that goal was scored at the back post where he’d defended so well all game.

Just seen the winner. The keeper should have done much better as it went straight through him.

I mean - its debatable if its even a penalty but a penalty and red card? With the Hartlepool penalty they got in very similar circumstances it does seem like they are going down intentionally looking for them.

He was never getting the ball as it was too high, but as defender had hands on, he lept with foul in mind and manufactured the foul.

That’s not saltiness, that’s recognition of a striker doing what strikers do.

It’s becoming more prevalent. Cunha has just been awarded a penalty for Man United after, to my mind, merely falling over in the area. And that’s with VAR as well.
