Cardiff is quite a nice city, the centre anyway, but it's not Welsh. A big dollop of England dropped into Wales and trying very hard to be Welsh, but just not quite managing it somehow.
If you go out into the suburbs then yes, it feels Welsh, but not Pontcanna or Roath.
In the interests of education I have pointed this out to a few Cardiffiae. They accept it stoically, no point in arguing with clear and evident truth. | | | |

We may disagree on this, but South Wales has it's own very strong English speaking culture quite separate from the Welsh language. It has lots of conventions and niceties that are like a warm bath when I come home from being away.
It's focused around whenever you deal with someone, however fleeting, you acknowledge them as a person. That's not required, not done, in most of England, and a whole lot of other places. There are other conventions like making space that are important in South Wales (try Russia - nobody even gets out of anyone's way). | | | |
