France were way off it tonight, never seen Mbappe so quiet.

I was expecting better Spain controlled the game, not sure I saw them as World Cup winners though, Messi's swansong for me.

I watched the first 15 minutes with them doing the high over press. Mbappe can't do that. He relies on making explosive runs from 40 to 20 yards out. If he's squandered his energy fruitlessly chasing defenders it takes the edge off his speed, as we saw.

The we got a shot of his face, it was his "I'm not playing" face. Mbappe is a team player but only if the team plays for him.

There was the usual Martinesque holding the ball just inside the halfway line, which Spain let them get on with, pouncing on the occasional mistakes.

As the 2nd half developed France looked knackered, outpaced on the burst, especially their 'top' players who were supposed to deliver the quality.

If England win without controversy thy will deserve it. In many tournament they have had an easy route to the final. Not this one in the last 32 onwards tough tough games in tough conditions.

It is going to happen eventually. They cannot lose on penalties v Germany anymore.

In true British style if you keep losing to Germany give the German the job.
