I do Parkrun’s most Saturday’s and trying to get to as many venues as possible, a great scheme and always so well run and welcoming.
As others have said, an option to join QPR Runners group (Facebook), l try to always run wearing my QPR Runners replica shirt so have met a few fellow R’s and had some good football chat as I’ve take. part around the country.
If anyone ever runs Marine Parade Parkrun (Weston S Mare) let me know and I’ll make sure I am there as this is my home Parkrun, have a PB of 20:41 🙂. Parkrun I’d most recommend is Woolacombe Dunes, one of the slowest in the country but well worth trying.
I did one in Scotland that was brutal. Basically a trail run. That one really stands out. It was near Glasgow. If I can ever find my old number I'll look it up.
Drumchapel Woods / Bluebell woods / Garscadden Woods (depending how local you are) is tough. So is the castlemilk one. 👍🏼
Nice one!! Me and Mr Jeff will be there tomorrow - can confirm that parkrun is almost as addictive as QPR. If you haven't got on it yet the app is full of little challenges you can do by collecting parkruns, strong recommend...
Love Park Run, just moved away from anywhere close to one. 105 completed in 20 locations. Got on the podium (so to speak) with a third place finish although there were only 12 runners..
Did my local Kingston Parkrun yesterday before the Middlesborough game. I've not done it so much over the years but trying to do more now I've retired. It is so good for you - mind and body.
Not a park run but I decided to join a local running group. They do 5km on Wednesdays at 6.30pm. Yesterday was my first one.
It's weird because I've never been athletic ever. I spent my whole childhood playing on a ZX Spectrum and all my teens playing guitar.
But oddly, I can always seem to do a 5k with no training. I run like I'm dying and I've got the pace of a post-ACL Kevin Gallen but I'm pretty good at grim determination it seems. The only issue is that today it feels like I'm breathing in pure iron and my legs seem to want revenge on me for what I've done to them.
The thing is, you can't get this sort of cardio anywhere else. I've done gym stuff and spin classes and shit like that but it's f**k all. Running is the best fitness. You just have to be okay with having Mark Hatelely's knees.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Nah swimming is the best fitness, far less stress on joints compared to running.
Personally I just don't get the obsession with jogging/running. You should only be running if a) you're running away from something - Godzilla, Freddie Krueger, etc. or b) you're running to get something - a bus, a ball, free cake.
Anyway you runners go enjoy yourselves, I'll have a nice brisk walk thanks.

Swimming has its benefits but in terms of hard cardio gains, it's not as good. Yeah it's gentler but so is cycling or whatever. All good stuff but you get fitter quicker from running.
I started running back when I was 40 because I was doing Muay Thai (with lots of strength and conditioning work) but after a round I'd be gassed and would get lit up. I started running and everything got easier.
That said, my knees click when I use the stairs now but what can you do?

I did Homewood in Woking the other week, that was quite a tough course, uphill through woods and loads of nice tree roots to trip up tired legs. Super fast downhill bit, so a good chance to windmill your arms! ;D
My usual one in Slough is very flat and fast. There is another regular who runs in a QPR training kit, I'll have to ask if he works there, might be one of the thousand in the elite performance team?

Maybe slow the pace down, do less distance but run more often?
I found just running Saturdays plateau'd me. I didn't start feeling more energised until I ran midweek as well. After a few weeks I wasn't creaking round the house on Sundays!
Remember to warm up before and stretch out afterwards this also helps!
