You don't know what you had till it's gone. A lot of people underestimated just how important Harwood-Bellis, Charles and Stewart were. The spine of the team is looking very weak again.
But. it's early days. A win against Millwall, unlikely as it seems right now, will change everything. |  |

Disagree on Mubama, apart from terrible second half shot, he made himself available but had little support.
I lost count of the number of times he made runs similar to Larins for his goal v Stoke aiming to get behind their defence, but every time the person with ball played it sideways or backwards.
As a team we seldom won 50/50 balls and seemed incapable of playing simple balls forward to teammates, regularly when under no pressure passing straight to a West Ham player.
As you say the spine of team desperately needs to be strengthened otherwise it’s going to be a real struggle. |  | | |

Agreed, but I think that was part of the problem, because Ross Stewart didn't play that way and neither does Larin, for the most part. Stewart and Larin are basically traditional centre forwards who are comfortable receiving the ball with their backs to goal and linking play.
So far, Mubama doesn't look interested in that style of play. He wants to play on the shoulder of the last man and run on to a ball that's played in behind. That may get him goals when our midfielders are used to looking for his runs, but at the moment it doesn't help to build play in the way that our centre forwards did last year.
He's more mobile than Stewart was, which could be a strength, but it's a different way of playing. I expect we'll gradually adapt to that, but I think we also need the option of another traditional centre forward that can be swapped like-for-like with Larin, like we did last year. I hope we sign one but it looks unlikely. | | | |
