But why would he not be? (Unless there's an injury of course) He is (seems to be) a decent professional and I'm sure he'd play the right way and do his best for the club and would prove to any suitors he is worth paying the £30m or so with his attitude alone |  |

Wood and Stephens will play. Very unlikely that THB will be involved at all as negotiations with Villa still seem to be live. Schlotterbeck won't be ready yet but will probably be on the bench because there are no other options. | | | |

Tonda confirmed he won't play tomorrow. THB clearly wants to leave, but Villa arn't matching his valuation. The thought that THB might have to stay, is obviously upsetting him and hence he isn't playing. At the end of the day, THB should accept that we can't let him go for a pathetic amount, so he should just keep playing for us and be professional. When that 80 grand is waved in front of you, with champions league football, the thought of it not happening, must be affecting his mental health. Poor thing, only staying on 30 grand a week. According to this morning's paper Villa are still "pursuing" him which means they either are going to or have upped their offer. Maybe that latest offer still doesn't match ours so someone is going to be stuffed! | |

Schlotterbeck probably doesn't know enough about the way we play and he hasn't spent enough time in training with his defensive partners. Every team defends slightly differently, particularly if like Augsburg, they play a back 3.
There's a reason teams do defensive drills over and over again in training and he's probably not done enough of them here to know exactly what his job is in different situations. If Schlotterbeck has only had a couple of training sessions, then Tonda would really have to have lost confidence in JS to drop him for this game. | | | |

I thought that was part of our issues so far this season, we seemed to have forgotten the drills on how to defend so Kev only has to learn to pass it forwards and to a red and white shirt. | | | |

Never mind what anyone else thinks, today's coaches think the game is complicated. Just to pick one example, every club has different ways of attacking and defending corners. Saints will have spent some time in training this week on how to defend against Millwall's corners, which they score lots of goals from. Maybe Schlotterbeck was there for that session, maybe not.
OTOH, it may actually be that KS is brought in today for that very reason. He's supposed to be good in the air and we'll bloody need to be to defend against their set pieces.
Playing JS is always a risk but the coaches will think it's a risk to throw KS straight in too. Let's see which risk they prefer. | | | |
