Thing is in the premier league there were many games they could have sold 35k plus. There has to be infrastructure with the current positivity. Stadium hoardings are the biggest income.

Corporate seats add value but do they add atmosphere, surely there has to be a balance. Like halftime, I understand the point of the penalties with the mascots because it generates revenue, but it is stale and boring for the majority of supporters. The club needs to look at the bigger picture.

Empty seats don't add atmosphere! I'd like to move Hooligan Corner around behind the goals, while the away fans can be tucked in the corner. That's what happens at the vast majority of grounds.

Good job you are not in charge then, there's not enough segregation exits in that area to comply.

We all know that the stadium was too small when in the PL. And I would have thought the max we'd need would be 30,000. I've never heard mention of that sort of demand back then Keith. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd disagree. For us to grow there needs to be room to fit more people in, to attract more people we need to be playing well, winning AND it would also help if they lowered prices. The thing abour extending is, there is never a perfect time. If we wait for sustained EPL presence then we are losing young people to other clubs. We need to start getting them in OUR ground, the sooner the better. After all we cannot possibly know if we will stay up for longer than the one season, if we even get promoted. I think the way to go is to start with a small extension but the away end being as it is (thinking about access and parking) it would be expensive. Then where do we build first? We know if we're promoted we will mostly fill the ground every game. If we were having a very good season and looked like going up we could start that waiting list and give people points for attending, most points getting first dibs. I'm sure I've said before but my opinion is the stadium was poorly designed. The access, the parking, the space around the ground, it was all short sighted and lacked ambition at a very basic level. To improve it ks now vastly more expensive than the original build (Wrexhams new stand will hold around 6000 and is costing 70 million with fewer logistics problems than we'd face. This is where we find out how much ambition our owners truly have, do they want to go up and just take the money or do they really want to grow the club.

I'll be honest I am not too concerned about the size of the stadium because unless you go very large, and we would never justify it, there is little difference in income percentage wise as most of the income is outside matchday. Brentford with a capacity of under 18,000 or Crystal Palace with a capacity of 25,000 should be our role models on and off the pitch.

To stay in the Premier league long term, if that's the aim, you need to grow beyond the 25k, or charge higher prices. The clubs that get the biggest sponsorships have the bigger stadia, larger crowds. I guess it comes down to just what the long term aim is?

How many people did we lose during the premier league years because they could never get a ticket, I’ll guarantee you that if we had a 30k stadium and got promoted season tickets would sell out and we’d retain more fans than we did after the last relegation.

100% correct. A couple of years ago my son bought ST's for himself and our grandson. Obviously he was able to get two together because we're in the Champ and not selling out. Some of his other friends (part of the same team) have bought them also along with their Dads. As I say, they were able to get seats together which is what you'd need taking your 6/7/8 year old son with you. If we were in the PL this would have been impossible. My son and all the others would have missed out. And I can't imagine how many thousands of others missed out when we were there because of the stadium capacity. The first season back in the champ the crowd dropped 2000. And the crowd dropped each season after that. In 2025 the average was 15,500. If the stadium had been 30,000 for example the average might have been 27,000 perhaps. So we would have retained far more. Our current attendances are embarrassing to be honest. I know Burnley's away support was pathetic yesterday but 16,400 is awful. For how we've started the season we should be having 20,000 plus crowds. The manager and the team deserve that.

Gate money is barely a blip compared to TV money unless you're one of the serious big clubs who make a fortune on corporate income. If we had an extra 10,000 season ticket holders paying the full adult ticket price for them it works out at less than £4.5m a season. It would probably take five or six years at full capacity just to cover the cost of construction. If we're ever in a situation again where we're selling out the full capacity for two or three consecutive seasons then maybe it'll be worth considering, but until then it's just not worth it.

I'd imagine if the owners were to decide to expand they wouldn't just be looking at just adding 10,000 seats or whatever number. It's been said so many times that our off field efforts at generating income has been amateurish in the past. According to what Keith has said they've started a real push to improve that. Commercial target figures for the entirety of last season reached before Christmas is one stat I remember. The value of the new stadium sponsorship deal will be very interesting to see as well. None of us know what extra income they'd be able to generate so we're in for an interesting season. Not just on the pitch. Another thought is that, if we were to get back to the PL retaining bigger crowds after relegation back to the Champ builds extra resilience into the Club.

Exactly John, if we keep on waiting all it will do is ensure we keep on waiting, and waiting. There is no perrct time, it's either do it or not. As I said, the clubs with bigger stadia get better sponsorship deals and whike Dr W can put the revenue at 4.5 million, that's ticket sales, what about the extra food and drink sales, the extra club shop sales and hopefully larger sponsorships. All of that also helps to attract players. We can either try to keep moving forward or we can stand still and standing still is practically stagnating.

35,000 capacity, seated and standing areas with Bundesliga style pricing at £20. River taxis up from the Swansea Jack or get off at the newly refurbished Landore station into the fantastic fan zone where beers are £3 a pint. Kit priced at £25 with Swans tops as far as the eye can see. I can dream.

Well said cat. Which of these sayings is best to follow as regards where we'd like Swansea generally, not just the Football Club, to be - 'Graveyard of Ambition' or 'Ambition is Critical'. I know which I want.

I can't watch it but 54k is a bit much. I think we need only 32-35k for the forseeable future. Even then we'd not fill it unless in the Prem, unless we had a big cup game and prices were cheap enough maybe.

Any associated costs with increasing the capacity cannot be repaid by football alone. It would need to be a concert venue as well at the very least. Would we be able to compete with Cardiff for acts that attract those crowds? Sadly I’m not sure.
