Its a bit like asking someone to describe the invisible man, but I am really keen to know if there is any prospect of him breaking through into the 1st team or why is he just warming the bench every week. Odd that he didn't get minutes against Derby or Swansea. Indicates to me that Kolli has played himself back into favour and his development is higher priority now. Assuming Burrell and Lloyd fit and firing by then, perhaps Obikwu should be loaned out in January. But who would take anyone on who hasn't kicked a ball in a year, so unless he plays between now and then, even that door is closed.

| Justin Obikwu on 08:59 - Oct 28 by Dorse | He arrived injured but I think he was probably brought in as a development project, on the assumption that Kolli, Lloyd or both would be out on loan this season. He wasn't fit for the majority of last term and has come back to find opportunities limited because of a lack of game time since January, whereas all the other strikers are known entities. Probably not up to speed yet and, with the bloodletting/leeches methodology in sick bay, he might be seen as an option of last resort. |
Obikwu actually arrived ready to play and was injured in training. As a pacey forward he was signed in January to replace the injured Burrell, not as a DS player.

Just piping in. development project and development squad are not the same thing. I reckon a development project is buying someone cheap, making them better (more valuable) and then selling them on. So, in fact Burrell is very much a development project himself. I also think Obikwu was signed for what he could be, not what he currently is. From what I can tell Obikwu is tall and fast, so very much a different option to the rest of our squad. I'd imagine the hope is he would kick on and give us a different option for the first team. In the grand scheme of things I don't think this was an expensive signing on a huge wage, so its minimal risk. Probably a worse signing that doesn't get talked about is Saito, who was signed for a larger fee and most likely has higher wages. Saito is also similar to other players we already have in terms of position and size. I don't mind the club making speculative signings like Justin, we will never have a 100% success rate. The key is to sell at the top when one does work, and move on quickly when one doesn't Although, kudos to the club, as most teams would have bombed Madsen out after that first season and what a player he is now!

Burrell was really under the radar, all the noise was about Kone as I recall. Even so under a million on a player in the Champ is still a punt I reckon. When we are losing £2m a month to tread water its almost money down the back of a sofa innit? Ridiculous really when Southampton, Burnley, Boro and West Ham are dropping +£10m on one player. The key part here is QPR need to sell one of our development prospects for a big profit and soon. I don't think we can rely on pretending we got over a million for Sam Field and market this as progress
