| October 13:42 - Oct 26 with 1332 views | DWQPR | During the international break it was mentioned on a few occasions that October was looking very daunting and maybe the easy start in terms of opponents we did not get enough points on the board. I suspect that the more optimistic of us would have looked at the schedule for the month and think that Derby was a must win game given that we may not get much from the other four matches. That is an optimistic 3 points during the five match run. We with four down and one to go we have won two, drawn one and lost one. Scored ten and let in five. And that is with five first teamers or players we would normally consider as first teamers out through injury. And who is to say we cannot get something from this weekends game. Had for footballing gods been smiling on us against Preston and the ref hadn’t sent off Cerkin we would have no doubt won that game comfortably have two more points and an even better goal difference. Since that match last week alone I saw three tackles that were not dissimilar and all got no more than yellow cards, one against Jimmy Dunne at Brum. I’m quietly confident of getting something at St Mary’s, why not, a far worse Rangers team snatched a win there back in the day with a Ray Jones winner. So it ain’t been a bad month after all. | |

But we have also shown against Birmingham that if we let these standards slip we get done over. Impossible to maintain impeccable standards all season so we will lose several games this year - it’s how we react to a defeat that matters. No complaints on that score last Saturday.

So six points down. Then we go to the Brew Dog Stadium where I expected us to get dicked by that mob with Bowen hanging the back of Miss Dyer etc. That is most definetely a point gained so down to five left on the table. Against Swansea I expected a draw before their surge at the summit...... with how the season was panning and our Treatment Room that was quite possibly an expectation of zero; but I'll stick with a draw. So that's two points gained. Now down to three left on the table. If, by some miracle, we win next Saturday we will be parring my course of points return hoped for / slightly expected at this stage. I had us down for a defeat v Burnley so if we get two wins in a row then ahead of things which would be absolutely bloody amazing. [Post edited 26 Oct 17:14]

Rather than just looking at October, I think we should be looking at the games between the international break. There's 7 games in that period & so far we have 7 points from 4 games. I know it's a 3 game week upcoming (8 days if you prefer), but hopefully we will have gained points in double figures from them. Then we can start looking at the 8 games to take us up to the halfway stage.

And if you didn't, then you'd be the biggest idiot going. We have been superb, and at times, a joy to watch! Long may it continue, but we should expect some sticky stuff along the road but for now: enjoy! It's effing good in parts!!

Still 3 games to go in this series of games that IS clearly a sterner set of fixtures than the opening round of games prior to the last break.... it's a bit early to be making any comparisons or judgements. Will be interesting to see if we wilt again on Saturday week due to "Three Games in 8 Days" syndrome or, give The Imps a thorough going over. Whatever, after the Lincoln game I'd say that's a sufficient amount of games to start formulating some fact-based analysis about progress and trajectory. Trouble with this next break is there's normally some sackings and re-sets and floundering teams like say, Burnley, Derby, Norwich pull their fingers out so it'd be handy to max our points tally in this phase to enhance our position going into Phase 3 of the season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agreed Said elsewhere, key for me would be sitting nicely in the top 8 positions at the end of Phase 3; preferably top 4. This could mean a different calibre of player attracted in the next window be them loans or permanent. Players more likely to want to join a club on the up and top clubs more willing to send their players to better performing outfits The flip side might be players being sniffed around I know that’s a part of the plan but losing Ronnie or Jimmy or anyone mid season IF we’re on a roll would be hugely disappointing and disruptive. Just as bad might be clubs recalling star performers such as Prince Charles or Kamara — memories of Kyle Walker but that wasn’t so bad at the end. Weird old feeling!!!!
