Madley the ref 12:38 - Nov 8 with 1019 viewsloftboy

What’s happened to him ?
Before his ban I thought he was one of the better ones, yesterday he was Pinicity, missed lots of off the ball stuff notably a two handed pull and take down on smithy, failed to let the game flow by insisting free kicks were taken in the exact place to the inch.
Wasn’t impressed with him at all.

Poll: Who’s starting between the sticks v Preston?

Agree, thought he was poor.

He got that big decision wrong (the two footed foul in the first minute which should have been a red) and also seemed to give Lincoln free kicks for minimal contact but waved us away when we were fouled. Also strange yellow card for Smyth as I thought he was initially fouled by the Lincoln player who then threw himself to the ground.

Sort of decisions you expect maybe from an inexperienced ref but not someone like this one. (Unless the ref is Gavin Ward or Keith Stroud).

Don’t really agree.

He got two bookings in very early on which seemed to send out the right message.

The fact that I barely noticed him after that suggests he had a decent game.

He did get 2 bookings in early - I thought both were wrong, Lincoln should have been a red, Smyth's was a foul the other way.

He also should have awarded us a corner for their keeper holding onto the ball for 2 long and seemed to allow them to take ages setting up for long throws.

We've had worse but very poor for such an experienced official.

Would need to see it again but the foul in the first minute seemed very Cirkin-y. Otherwise it wasn’t a particularly hard game to referee and he just about didn’t make a complete horlicks of it. Spent an hour happily allowing them to take set pieces from wherever and for however long they wanted but we get a throw-in in the 90th minute and it’s of the utmost importance it’s taken within four milliseconds. Immediately followed by their throw where again, do what you need to lads.

He obviously got the referees whatts app group message about Smythy falling over too much .
He wasn’t perfect but we’ve had a lot worse .

It looked like typical homer performance but only if Lincoln had been at home. Happens a lot to us for some reason

Clearly a tactic to go hard and early but I thought the Smyth yellow was harsh when measured against theirs. Subdued Smyth for much of the game.

Also not sure where the 5mins came from at the end, luckily didn’t trouble us.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

I called it as there were multiple substitutions, extended goal celebrations and some mucking about with a throw or free kick that had him pointing to his watch.

As things go, I thought he was ok. However, I hate this modern style of reffing, where pushing and holding are almost always ignored. It discriminates against smaller skilful players and by not stamping down on it, it continues unabated.

It’s a weird sort of rules though where if someone with the ball stops short and gets an inevitable gentle bump in the back from the defender behind them it’s ALWAYS a free kick however slight the impact but a barge in the back or using the arm to forcefully shove away a player on the ball is not a free kick. It baffles me.

I thought he was trying to put his mark on the game with the Smyth booking in the first two minutes. Like 'I'm a Premiership ref, don't mess with me'. Not really a booking, was it ? I thought he was quite poor overall. It looked to me like their manager had said to them 'Stop them from playing', and Madeley didn't seem to get that.
